Any reason to use submachine guns?
The new .42 bullets seem to be only used for ♥♥♥♥ pistols or the submachine guns, and I noticed a couple perks that benefit SMGs specifically. Anyone use them at all? It seems shotguns and assault rifles still reign supreme when it comes to firearms, in my opinion...

I feel like some of the submachine guns are better geared for focusing crits. a backup pistol and all the acc you can get for extra crit. The mantis submachine gun has 175% crit damage, which I think is slightly more than some of the ARs. Some can also fire 3/6 ammo per AP. They are only slightly different than ARs and I think they have their own pros and cons and are better on different plants or VS different corps.

Starting out on a new game SMG's are where its at, most factions don't really use shotguns much and none have 7.97 until later tech so the caliber rounds of SMG's overlap with pistol rounds of which are going to be plentiful. There are some good SMG's and there are some bad as with other weapon types but SMG's have painful crits which if you focus on a crit build like that person above me said you could get some more mileage out than other weapons, at least I'd hope if you built something around a weapon/playstyle that you'd see good results. Honorable mention to the CRASH shotgun/SMG... For some reason its a SMG but fires shotgun shells which means tunnel rats can get a boost on its damage, might be interesting what else could synergize with SMG types.

If you can get blueprint for Rubber .42 those work very well on Mercury morphs weak to blunt. Slugs for shotgun are good but more fire rate and accuracy for .42 smgs and snipers pays well. Plus fire rate of Mantis is 3/6 compared to usuall 1/3 of 9mm smgs and explosive 9mms use fuel while rubber is just 2 powders. AnCom makes potent smg and sniper rifle for .42.

i dont see much reason to use anything except your buffed up favourite weapon
(usually jeffhammer unless youre a mellee enjoyer)
but SMGs can be viable for sure if built around it

btw if you find any more rubber bullets, or can make them, and dont have an smg for them, this gun also works nicely with them. (my victoria character has put it to good use) :o)

Only problem with marksmen rifles is there isn't a skill that boosts them? Snipers go through durability pretty quick but if you can line up a shots and hit multiple enemies its good but other weapons can also do that.

ah thats true, i think in about 7-10 missions ive had to use a bunch of small repair items, and 1 shard + 2 red weapon repair kits - but whenever i got the chance, (and if i felt it was safe enough to do so), i was also using spare guns from enemies with some basic ammo, to finish them off, and save on its durability a bit - its also very satisfying after a long day, to do a mission like that where you feel you are able to utilise almost everything in some way :)

some SMGs have a benefit that gives them 300% crit damage, so on a clone/class with good acc, maybe a backup pistol, should be able to hit some high damage

cool i'll have to try that with that in mind - most of the time i was using smg's was as a spare weapon before

Classes Tifton's Elite and Angel Of Spades have perks for marksman rifles and 7.97.

Snipers have bonus pierce chance and give extra wounds on pierce. For physical damage wounds that take health on AP/move/action It adds up rather quickly.

Ammo takes less gunpowder to produce, and very few assault rifles are easy on the ammo supply.
