Escort target dying should not lead to loss of the clone
The mission ended instantly when he died, should have allowed the clone to evac

also the loss of cargo in protect cargo missions, should allow the clones to extract

Maybe leave clone, but at least give him the chance to load his gear onto the shuttle

Also happened to me, escort target died offscreen in another room due to a quasimorph spawning in lol.

It gets even worse. I tried doing one and the guy just had a heart attack suddenly and dropped dead for no reason. No enemies around, nothing. I guess the only solution now is to park them in a room and hope they don't bleed out from a stubbed toe or something.
I agree it is stupid. Failure of a mission must be separate from death.

This literally just happened to me. My clone was doing great with no health problems. Then all of a sudden I get a mission failed screen. I assumed oh, my escort must've gotten itself killed somehow, oh well, mission failed. But no - no chance to extract or anything just straight up dead with his gear lost. Total BS.
The game should at the very least warn you that if the escort dies, you die, and ideally there should be some HUD information about your escort. I mean, can you even use healing items on them?
I actually had 2 defibrillators on me *just in case* it would be awesome if I could've used them.
Ideally each mission type should have a tutorial / help page within the game, outlining little details about what you're expected to do, but maybe this will come in a future update... Let's hope.

Don't you generally lose the clone in this game if you fail the mission?

I figure this is just an example of that, even if it might not necessarily make sense.

I'll choose to believe this is just a case of it being stipulated in your contract that your clone must be fitted with a termination device or such if the escort target dies, to encourage them to protect their target at all costs.

you should lose the clone on mission fail. the whole idea is clones are just that... clones to be used and then tossed in the trash. If we already failed the mission, its not also now worth it to salvage the clone; were not getting paid cheaper to just use a new clone and try again .

That could be true if they had no gear and empty inventories...
Having a defib should prevent the end screen on escort missions

That must be an 0.85 feature, because it didn't work for me playing pre-beta version
