Quasimorph

Quasimorph

My feedback for the game
I played the beta on normal for my last 34 hours (I have 20 hours in 0.6.3 and 34 in 0.8.5, never reached the endgame) Enjoyed the game, it was addicting for some time but it also become very repetitive so for now I think I have enough of the game until more stuff arrive.

The story and lore are really a mess (playing in Spanish doesn’t help, I think). I’m not sure why I’m doing the story missions or why Quasimorphs exist. I know there’s a key lore mission in a demo, but that must be included in the game to understand what’s happening, and make a log or diary to keep track of "what happened."

Progression is too slow. I’ve been playing for about 30 hours on my last save, not dying much, and I still have tier 1–2 factions (I tried to move as little as possible so that time wouldn’t pass. That’s how you play the metagame well, right?..,) only 2 major ship upgrades and some minors, and just 2 friends. I get it, hardcore gamers want a long campaign, but the game doesn’t have the depth to support such a long campaign. I’m already bored of the combat and the endless looting. I need more things to do in 30 hours, or I’ll lose interest. If you don’t have more to offer mechanically to keep the game loop fun for longer, let me unlock things earlier because I’m going to abandon the game simply due to a lack of interest in repeating the same stuff.

I like the patrolling behavior of the AI and the new icons, but everything ends in massive fights in rooms or corridors. I like that this happens sometimes; it can be challenging when it surprises you, but it gets boring when you see it too often, as if it’s the default way to handle combat.

Keeping track of what you need to upgrade your ship is a nightmare. It needs a QoL update to mark the useful stuff you need, manually or otherwise. Even Stoneshard, which is usually more inflexible to have concessions to the players than this game, has a system to track what you need for your caravan, so you don’t have to check a JPG outside the game to remember what’s important.

Also, more QoL updates to organize your stuff in the ship, like marking items in categories so they move automatically to specific containers that you have for them.

I’d like to see more specific characterization in faction weapons so your preparation before missions plays a major role. Maybe you actually see this now in the late game, but as I said, if in 30 hours I’m still doing the same thing over and over and still on tier 2, I’m never going to reach the endgame. Right now, I don’t think preparation against factions has any importance. My preparation is currently only for Quasimorphs or deciding whether I have a good clone or an expendable one (to give the good stuff or go basically naked).

Also, if you ever implement that "characterization," keep a codex or something to track the strengths and weaknesses of factions. You might think this is lame or for casuals, and that players should discover (and remember) it for themselves, but we live in the era of the internet, and people can check the wiki in 2 clicks. It’s more convenient if you give this information to the player in a controlled way instead of forcing them to go outside the game to find it.
