Question about barter trading module

I just got the barter module and the trading capsule. I had no clue how this will work, so I sent it towards a remote station with a single cheap item on board (hoping a window will pop up asking me what to deliver in return). It returned 96h late and brought everything with it that was buyable with all the credits and trading volume I had by one faction. Now I am sitting on over 40 shards that will decay in some days and alot other stuff. How is it supposed to work?

It trades with the whole space body if it can, not with only one station. It barters for random items the stations have in their inventory. It can use your credit.
It use is niche, yes, but useful if you don't want to fly across the system to sell a batch of Helper backpacks or morphine. Or any other timed random barter items.

I see. Thanks for the information. I guess the whole trading system will be reworked anyway, as there is potential in trading and faction relations.
