Am I doing the mission select play loop wrong?

I'm enjoying the game, but it feels like I must be getting something wrong with this element because it feels quite clunky. I can look at what rewards the corps offer, and subscribe to certain ones that have things I want (chips initially) so they'll be highlighted on the map.

BUT the majority of the missions that pop up will expire before I can travel to them even if I see them and travel immediately, and the subscription still highlights missions where the corp is the opponent rather than beneficiary, in the same colour?

Am I supposed to travel based on the event pop ups, rather than missions, and just hope? Or just stay in one location, at 100x speed, checking the map every 24 hours hoping a mission pops up that is suitable (for a corp I want, not against a corp I want, at an attainable difficulty level)?

I appreciate that there should be some level of RNG, and a strategic element to choosing certain missions that don't tick every box, but it's not like battletech where I've got time pressure in salaries/running costs to pay etc. The only apparent cost to waiting for the missions I want is boredom staring at the same screen (plus Tezctlan/Hexarchs taking over everything)?

yeah I also find this dumb, I want to do the mission but it will be gone by the time I get there.
