One possible way to reduce this issue (beside of, you know, making how bathering/Missionrewards works less random) would be to add storage room to Clothing. And probably rework the inventory at all at some point. Idk, the whole idea of gridbased inventory is, that Items have different sizes. Right now, an small caliber pistole takes the same room as a freaking assault rifle.
I think its part of the challenge to hunt for chips and trading with factions you need items (backpacks) from.
On the other hand having LBE gear like in JA2 1.13 would add complexity and fun.
When I started playing I too had the issue with the production requiring too many materials, until I realised I had completely overlooked the disassemble option during missions.
Mines and grenades. 80% of the mission and barter loot was just that. Did not get a single backpack from them, even though the Buffalo one has a 14% spawn rate, while the grenades and mines have 3% respectively.
Gotta pray to RNGesus for everything in this frustration sim. F*** off...
Havent played JA2 1.13, but arent wests LBEs?
Having discovered that most pants have, in fact, some storage room is not really a new thing in the extraction genre.
At least we can loot quite a few 3-row backpacks during mission at the moment. Those appear fairly often.
Wish Servo pack also had 3 rows. Its harder to repair (if possible at all... electric parts? didnt try) and 2 rows with a gun slot as sidegrade for 4 row pack is a hard bargain.
Base pack as 3x6 with 2 potential upgrades of 4x6 and 3x6 + gun slot would be really nice.
Ist an RL equipment system. I think the western world uses MOLLE.
Moduiar vests with slots to attach pouches for different purposes like ammo, grenades, healing items, Holsters (Pistol/MP) AND Backpacks :)
No disrespect but you say that as if it was guaranteed when it's RNG what we get as a reward for doing missions or trading with them. On top of that whether we even have the right items a planet they have are looking for is hard because having only 2 rows means there is virtutaly no space to bring trade items back. We need to make sure we bring some armor to make sure we have spares, we need to bring weapons if they are decent as replacements as well. We need to bring a small variety of meds, food and a decent amount of ammo per mission, there is practically no space as we go in and once we find a decent weapon or a couple decent pieces of armor, there just isn't space anymore. This is even worse if the mission is about extracting with an item which further reduces our backpack by 1 slot.
I'm sorry but 2 rows is virtually nothing. It doesn't makes picking the good things important, it makes it feel really back because we come out of the mission with next to nothing. 3 rows should be the absolute bare minimum and even that feels a bit restrictive because I'd expect 4 to 5 rows for harder missions where I'm expected to bring even more variety of meds and alcohol and cigars and morphine, bringing even more ammo, bringing extra food. Maybe even bringing repair kits.
Thed way I see it, 1 to 2 skulls need at least a 3 row backapack, 3 to 4 skulls I'd say at least 4 and 5 skulls I definitely would want a 5 row and in all these cases I'd barely be getting more space for loot, I'd be getting more space for items I need for harder missions.
I am not very experienced in the game as I started playing only 2 days ago... but I only take bandages, antibiotics and food. One melee and one gun. I prefer the electrical weapons with no ammo just to have something ranged to pull aggro and be more versatile in combat.
One time I forgot the food but managed to survive 3 levels with scavenging what I found. Chainsaw cuts off body parts and you can eat those :D
Armor and weapons can be repaired by disassembling other stuff an using the materials. I dont know if durability is restored after the mission but so far I had no issues extracting with at least two 2x1 trading items.
That's good enough for 1 skull misisons, 2 skulls if you are lucky but anything more and you are done for and eventhe 2 skulls have a high chance of failure like that.
I take 2 guns with different ammo types with cutting damage prefered, I take 4 full stacks of ammo (2 for each gun), I take bandages, antibiotics, splints and medkit and food. That's only 4 or 5 slots left, add finding armor and weapons and that's basically nothing as bringing a usable armor piece is more important than a trade item that may or may not give me anything worth it.
so much so, that in my current 2-floor mission of Conquest, i found 1 blue chip within the first 10 seconds of playing, and have managed to eliminate the whole 1st floor, but theres no way im going to leave before trying to find a bigger backpack on the 2nd floor lol
Cured enemy Skins + Threads for a makeshift 1 row backpack that we can carry in each hand? please, pretty please
