That would fall under "resource intensive", considering how rare thermal grenades and flamethrowers seem to be early on.
if the devs add the ability for melee weapons, to also be able to attack walls etc, (at a loss of durability), a bit like how they can destroy metal doors currently, then maybe using spare melee items and a bit of calories, can be a good way to make an alternate path.
ideally, the poison and acid would just dissipate and dilute itself over time, and weaken to like 10% or something, but seeing as even a 1 finger touch of a venomous toad or poison frog can kill a person in seconds, maybe toxins really are that bad for real :)
In real life, most fast-acting venoms and poisons require actual injection or consumption, respectively; those substances also break down incredibly quickly while outside of an organic body or special storage containers.
Your character is also likely wearing boots by the time you encounter spiders, which should protect from poisons but not particularly nasty acids.
im sure there will be some balance tweaks in future, or something to help with it.
for the acid, i think the easiest way would be that armoured boots loose at least 10% of their durability for every tile you step on which has acidic chemicals on it, (possibly with -2.5% reduced potency for tiles which have a smaller splash puddle, like 100% potency > 75% > 50%, and 25% always)
but anyone still wearing the cloth shoes, should most probably still get impacted by venom/poison, and acid burns on the foot or something, assuming that the liquid soaks through the cloth material.
