Best way to get ammo?
Im finding plenty of 9mm and shotgun ammo during missions but I am barely getting any 7.62. Is there a specific thing I should be doing to acquire more?

You can dismantle ammo on your ship to make gunpowder then convert it into 7.62 rounds. Best I find is to use shotgun ammo as you seem to always get plenty of that in operations. May be a better way but i'm still new.

hi if you also have a character with the Tunnel Rats trait, that can help you to find more items on enemies in general too.

someone said you can also dismantle some grenades or mines if not needing them, which could help if you really need some ammo, but i would try and keep those if you can as they are harder to make.

(btw you can dismantle ammo even in missions, but maybe the ship gives you a bit more, am not sure)

If you unlock more weapon recipes you can manufacture them because they come fully loaded with ammo

Some factions prefer 7.62.
My last playthrough I had around 200~ 7.62 on my first(non tutorial) mission.
Also found a chip.
Also died and lost everything, instead of extracting with said chip.

You eventually end up getting a lot of extra 9mm and shotgun ammo if you aren't just dumping it. Nails too if you fight the civil resistance, otherwise it's a somewhat common container item that you'll probably just use to make frag grenades. You can get fuel from explosive barrels and occasional loot from containers, but you go through it very very quickly if you use flamethrowers and you can't stack much of it so you will likely still have to ration it if you plan on using flamethrowers. Chemtrails are found in those green tubes you sometimes see in medical bays, assuming you don't blow them up and make the ground poisonous. Still the rooms with chemtrails are rare enough you have to ration it a bit since you only get like 25 chemtrails each room that has them. Batterys are found from enemies that typically oneshot you, mostly when you fight SBN, as well as from elimination targets. You find occasional makeshift batteries laying around, but it's hard to get a good stack going. Q ammo is only found when you fight Tectzlan, or if you trade with them.

Everything else is a bit harder to find until the factions start carrying it in missions or giving it to you as rewards. So alternative ammo types like the Q nails and bursting 9mm should be viewed as stuff you won't easily be able to replace. There's also ammo that's 'rare' but still technically regularly lootable, such as sawblades which are found even at the start of the game from civil resistance fighters, but only like 1 out of 40 will have sawblade launchers and you can only stack 20.

You can get item chips that let you craft ammo types (sawblades from trash for example), and you'll get the crafting recipe for free if you get an item chip to make a weapon that requires it. Eventually you can just break stuff down to make whatever ammo you need. Since 7.62 only requires 2 powders to make, you basically can just convert other ammo into it at a 2-1 rate.

You can also just carry ammo types you don't intend to use and bring it to extraction. For example buckshot if you don't have shotguns. If you end up finding 2-3 ammo types you can't use in a mission, you need to decide if you want to slot them, or dismantle them and turn them into 1 stackable slot of powder.

Also dismantling 9mm, buckshot, or 7.62 ammo to get powder can let you use that powder on workstations to make grenades in mission. So you don't specifically need to carry powder around if you have the other two ingredients already. You can also grab fuel from a red barrel and use it to make incendiary grenades if you got the other two ingredients already, so you can just make note of where the nearest red barrel is and decide if it's worth it to backtrack.

good stuff, thanks!

Try acquiring lots of 9mm ammo and then dismantle cuz they are 60 per stack so you can bring back more I haven't done any dismantling of rifle ammo o see if they drop more powder but then again they are so rare to be used by enemies im like maybe middle game or endgame and recently saw some mercs with rifle ammo and weaponry but 9mm is abundant so its worthwhile

hi i think that 9mm stacks up to 60 (but dismantling it in a mission only lets you have 50 per stack), so in case it gives you more than 60, its probably best extracting with a full stack of ammo, and then dismantling it back on a ship or when trading etc.

btw the nails are actually also very useful in the (2nd tier?) industrial Builder nailgun :) 6 shots per burst i think, its pretty nice :)
