caves of quod is unfinished but its probably worth it if you get it at a discount.

tales of maj eyal is very old school and detailed/varied, but extremely unforgiving if you do extra content (there are elite mobs in every map that you can avoid easily, great loot but they might be way above the area level)

one of the oldest roguelikes i can think of, Baroque, but you might need an emulator or to buy it in a console.

Battle Brothers is one of the best tactical RPGs of all time. Easy.

Cataclysm dark days ahead plays extremely similarly, and even has an extraction mode mod for it called sky islands. It has a steam page, but you can get the game for free, since it's an open source community project.
