tales of maj eyal is very old school and detailed/varied, but extremely unforgiving if you do extra content (there are elite mobs in every map that you can avoid easily, great loot but they might be way above the area level)
one of the oldest roguelikes i can think of, Baroque, but you might need an emulator or to buy it in a console.
