Just spent 10 minutes reminising.
The 2-3 day raids where if just ONE person out of 40-50+ made a mistake............To the bank for your back up gear! Or the long long wait for the eventual(hopefully) rez.

Before the automated player merchant stuff you had to literally go to the market and yell out what you had or wanted to buy. I had a guy that worked on a 20% commission, that is all he would do! Sit around the market and wheel and deal. I would give him free reign to do "upgrade" deals instead of coin. How my shammy got her Fungi tunic.

Ahhhhhhh :)

I think its all up to preference, I enjoyed Classic Everquest back when it was just Ruins of Kunark, In old everquest if you died you had to find your corpse, and there was no 'soul binders' or anything like that, you bound when you either made a cleric/druid/etc (only certain classes could bind, as is true with other magic) and/or seeking some one out who could. It was more about exploring and when you were stuck somewhere without a recent nearby bind and surrounded by enemys it produced a level of fear and excitement i haven't felt since, the graphics were great for their time.
yeah this is why i like wow becouse in wow when you die you are a ghost and you have to go find your dead body

in WOW when you are a ghost you cant be killed again.
there is NO danger in dying in WOW. NONE.
the game is a cakewalk made for carebear kiddies.

EverQuest was a dangerous game that challenged you and didnt hand you freebies.
Mobs chase you to the end of the zone (if there werent zones, you'd die allot more).
Mobs also run faster than you.
You die and respawn at your bind point. Didnt remember to rebind on a new continent? HAHA have a fun corpse run NAKED all the way back.
Died in front of a dragon at a raid?
Good luck getting your gear out from under its claws!
Oh yea - thats too bad - you died a few more times while trying to get your body back? YOU LOST A LEVEL? AAAWWWW.

This is what a great game is all about.
Nothing out today can compare to these gameplay mechanics in EQ1 because all you little kiddies who fail at life need an easymode game with no challenge to make yourselves feel good about yourselves.

Its a cryin shame what game devs chasing money from little kids has turned the MMORPG genre into over the last decade.
Cryin shame.

HELLZ YEA!
Man I miss the days this game was king.
Ironically there still isnt a game out in the last 15 years that can take many of the titles away from it either.

Says the guy acting like a kindergartner.

You are the exact type of player we need less of. Rude, entitled, and condescending. You are the kind of person that ruins MMORPGs for other people.

Grow up and get over yourself.

Everquest is for hardcore players not ♥♥♥♥♥ ass players who play WOW and need their hands held while doing quests.
wow this is still up but .

yes people still play eq but as a low lev character or just starting you wont see many till you get higher in levels and raiding.but if you need help someone norm trys to help hunting or answerin ?
i enjoy [darkened sea expansion] another lev gap raise to 105 and zones look so good especially thuliasaur island =]
been playin game on and off since was 1st released back in 99

wow i got a 80-89 warlock .[have not been on for yrs lol]
played on release quit after the the burning crusade made it to easy to lev and no challenges when you die or fight.
Michal is a scrub lol.
I enjoy both EQ and WoW but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I preferred EQ. There's nothing wrong with WoW at all, it's just that EverQuest was able to, without all of the modern day flashiness, it sucked me in totally. I see why it was referred to as 'evercrack'. I haven't really played since 2006 and I've been playing and replaying Gloomingdeep with several different races and classes and seeing how fast I can do all of the quests and so on.

WoW has a totally different feel to it and I don't see the comparison. Is it easier than EQ? I would have to say yes. Is it better? That's like asking if chocolate ice cream is better than vanilla. Maybe vanilla came out first and was the original ice cream. I should find a vanilla ice cream forum and post: "vanilla is really old the flavor is terrible everyone eats chocolate now vanilla is from [year vanilla was created] it sucks it may have been considered good back then but now it sucks"
Don't feed the troll /endthread

Troll has a point though. Nobody actually plays most of Everquest. They only play the endgame, or they cheat their way through leveling. I really couldn't give a crap about graphics (the music is more my gripe, and it's solely the brain-hurting repetitive battle music) and in fact, I love the mechanics of this game, it's got a nice old school feel.

But without a community, Everquest sucks. And it's not Everquest's fault, *ANY* MMORPG would suck without a community. The community is the soul of the MMO. And without a soul, an MMO is nothing.

I guess what I'm saying is, it falls upon you guys to make Everquest stop sucking and more appealing to new players.

I'm sure wow is looking dated to today's gamers as well. But it's simple. Play what you like, share what you like and if you post in game forums just to toot your horn then I guess you can do that too.
wow is a bit dated but evergay is far older and more outdated then wow

im clueless on the point you are actually trying to make? You come to a EQ forum to post about Wow why? who knows. If you think Wow is better then go play it who knows the reason behind you even coming onto this forum other then being a troll. So go find something else to do and grow up please thanks.
I should apologize for my last comment. I'm frustrated with the lack of low level community and taking it out on the entire community.
Just playing a game and... When it comes to crafting or using scrolls, non HP/mana potions, etc. I never use them. I level far too quickly to ever have to bother with them.

That was one things I liked about the origninal EQ, taking forever to level and then having hell levels where it could take you a month to level. If you are going to be spending that amount of time it was definately worth working on your crafting skills(WoW was pretty good with that initially too). You really grew into your character.

Just wonder if I'm chasings dragons, hoping to recapture that sense of...............That EQ and WoW created.

nothin was better then a corpse run lol
needed friend to get body for me at times
that was biggest challenge runnin to body and hope no one looted you =]

Like Azerdeath said, EQ is still a popular game and new members are joining all the time
