Most people don't play on steam probably less than 2% their audience. The game also has minimal server and data requirements so maintenance cost is minimal. I imagine most of their costs is developers. There team working on EQ is small.

It's still the best classic MMO imo.

I've tried so many others and always come back to EQ.
Im my long mmo journey i've seen many games with considerably less players and higher costs to maintain keeping running for YEARS. Is not that much of money to keep a server like this up, and the player base still quite big for a rpg from 1999, imo. I just started a few days ago, im on a journey to play the oldschool games that i never played back in the day, and i see a lot of people in starting areas and cities, and they are really nice to newbies. Games like EQ, ultima, tibia, osrs, ragnarok have primarily older players, that prefer to pay sub and buy expansions, rather than play p2w games with 0 interaction and that probably close in a few years. Also, they let p99 run as a priv standalone server, and not many companies do that, unless they are 100% secure of their work and community.

I do wish they would come back to steam. At least post game news, update their product page, name, etc. Do similar to EVE Online. Sell bundles / packages, and that's it. It would do more for EQ.

agree. you can't buy the expansion with steam funds but you can sub. ect

there's like 5k accounts online bruh. between modern eq, classic, and people boxing. you understand subscription money right

Alot more then 5k for sure lol.
I have a job bro and play like 4-5 accounts thats 15 a month each plus expansions and extra gay in store stuff to buy. they make money.
The person asking this only reads "this mmorpg failed" content and cant realize a smaller studio can keep a game going forever so long as it has a core audience, even if it didnt "kill wow"?

Like i dont get how someone cant connect the dots on a smaller game staying alive long term.
