Server explanation?

Im big dumb i dont understand the server types. Wtf is box/true box/random loot whats the difference? I got like 5 preferred servers shown to me. im scared to join a prog server because theres no mercs and there might not be enough people to even group at places.

True Box <Simplified> means its generally harder to play more than one character. Most people are going to be playing one character at a time.

Every other sever that isn't true box will have many people playing multiple characters at the same time.

Random loot is the new Progression Server system. If you kill a rare named you get random loot from within a balanced set for it. So say you kill a level 20 mob even though it doesn't have Ring of "X" on its loot table non random server it still has a chance to drop on the randomized server. Mischief is the most popular server atm, and I think is Kunark or Velious, no mercs though, but still decent for grouping.

If you go Prog go Mischief
If you go live look up server population first https://eqresource.com/serverstatus.php . FV is fairly popular for a modern EQ server.

Don't let that guy get to you.

Most of the people IN game are really nice and helpful. Zero political spam, no one trolling all over the place. It's relaxing and enjoyable compared to other MMO's.

This guy isn't even close to representing the population in game. Though, he may not have meant it as an insult either. Without subbing to the game, you really are gimping yourself in a way. Getting AA points for instance, will take you an eternity. Whereas if you sub, you get them auto granted after Level 50 if you have it selected. In addition, without subbing you can't select all of the servers.

If you want mercs, play on Firiona Vie. Highest pop live server. Mischief (as the other poster said) for progression.

I hope you give it a shot. This game is one I initially tried, quit, tried again, and quit. It took a few times, and the right time and mindset, for the game to fully pull me in. It's a hard game to get into, especially in 2021 where everyone's used to game's holding your hand like a child throughout.
