Well, this is a husk of what EQ was back in the day. Playing it now, you'll just kill things endlessly. There is technically more, but it's hidden from you, because they put you in "new EQ" rather than "old EQ".

Old EQ is still a blast, imo, but you will need training to understand how to play. Talking to NPC's requires you to literally type to them, by saying "Hail" and then responding to what they say with keywords or phrases. If you don't know that, you'll think everyone is just a cardboard cutout. But if you start talking to them, you'll realize that it's actually a virtual world with things going on.

It used to be so much more, because people had to work together. There was no mail, so people used to escort through dangerous zones for deliveries. Teleporting was a service that only a few could provide. Corpse retrieval was a big business, because everyone died. I believe crafting had no level reqs, so you could just be a craftsman, if you really wanted to. Instead of an auction house, you had a bazaar where everyone would hang out and haggle with each other.

But yeah, those times are gone. EQ is like an ancient ruin. To most, it's just a bunch of boring stones, but if you look closely, you might see a bit of the past. I adore this game, because I can see what it was (and I also happened to be there at the time of when it was). It's like revisiting an old hometown that is no more, and making new discoveries each time.

yep.

i see most of it is due to lack of modern ui/leveling other than graphics outdated, i can play with such graphics just fine, if it was same as wow, but it isnt and that is main issue, it has a lot of really outdated game design where old rpgs used text based input like in point and click games that asked player text input that they would interpret wrong and so its waste of time on players part for not much reward. if for example i could accomplish same tasks without using chat commands, which honestly makes no sense they never got around to replacing that with simple buttons, or uselss ui frames that basically duplicate each other and for yet again some unknown reason where never modernised or simply rethought, its like many of devs not bother of what it looks like a new player would experience as they got used to it being like that years ago.
They have a major update rolling out to the UI this year, and some graphical improvents...the UI update is long overdue. Hopefully it is good.
