New MMO that may be the next EQ
Hey everyone. As a long time vet of EQ, I have searched over and over for a MMO that has the class depth of EQ. I miss the MMO's of yesterday that made sense (no attacking fire elementals with fireballs), hard combat that required groups, urged exploration and team work. This may or may not be for you, check out Patheon. It is coming in 2017, and has developers from the original EQ team. some really cool things in it. For instance, kick ars lightning spell can only be used outside in a storm hah. No meteors in dungeons, etc. If you are a cold climate race, you get buffed when exploring cold areas but take penalties in the hot ones....all kinds of interesting things. Oh....THEY ARE BRINGING BACK CROWD CONTROL. The old days of enchanters etc. NO MORE HOLY TRINITY...dps/tank/heals and no worry of crowd control..heh do that in this game and you die...remind you of another game the way it used to be?

Brad has no funding. Definitely don't hold your breath.

Vanguard SOH Revisité?

Its quite a bit different from Vanguard. That being said, he does have an uphill battle with funding. The bright side is there are more and more crowd funding the project (I refuse to crowdfund any game).

Actually, the first video I saw of actual gameplay raised my hopes because it reminded me of Vanguard SOH so much. :)

I have to admit that at a push I could give money to it but having been burnt too many times with EA, etc. plus his previous history, I too will wait and see.

Have high hopes and we all need a decent old-school MMO nowadays.

definately. I will never give cash over to an unfinished product in the video game industry. Too many times the end product resembles nothing like what it has been portayed prior to release. MMOS are very guilty of this. I think the MMO genre is dying anyways. This game has some realyl fresh ideas, but we will see. I liked EQ2, but Daybreak ruined it with extreme grinding and rehashign old content (more than Sony ever did..and that says alot). Keeping my fingers crossed!

Reminds me of how they impressed on all of us what Black Desert Online would be like and it turned out to be as P2W as all the other Asian MMOs. It looks real nice but underneath it is the same old crap.

I found it hard to believe that even on a O/C i5-6600K 4.5Ghz, 16Gb RAM and an O/C GTX970 you still get that terrible popping in of NPCs and half are them are black until you get close. Something is wrong with their game engine and even with people posting how it puts them off the developers do nothing to fix it.

Use to play EQ2 major and a little EQ1. Getting back into EQ1 (All that content and old-style play plus slightly updated graphics) but EQ2 is so pass it's sell buy date it is crazy. For someone that considered EQ2 the best at one point I cannot even force myself to play it now and that includes a ton of L95+ toons.

I didnt have any grfx glitches in BDO with my 770GTX. Odd. I do agree it turned into a complete P2W, and got very repetitive. Shame, they had some really good ideas. I tried getting back into EQ1 and still look too dated to me. I didn't mind EQ2, but the latest xpac is awful. They put a ton of reptitious faction grinds in the game for cheap time sinks. They put a dungeon crawl in the game to let you level alts up within to a day or 2 to level 100. That's fine, especially if you have a main that has done the content already...who wants to do it all the long way from scratch. The problem is, the new xpac, and especially the new epic 2.0 weap is forcing players to go back into old greyed out areas and do the full questlines. COmplete lazy development. Give me some long hard , NEW material to pound through for the epic. Dont rehash old stuff and creat meaningless, unchallenging faction grinds to stall everyone. Dang it Daybreak!

Yep, after leveling more toons then I remember in the same old zones that I could nearly do blind folded now... I did not like the sound of the Epic 2.0 weapon forcing one to revisit zones that to be honest were not that great to start with. Agree with you.

Is this going to be Daybreak's trademark for the future.

they also forced everyone to craft if they want the 2.0. that didnt effect me since i craft, but they shouldnt force tradeskills, pvp, or pve in any game.
MugHug 24 Jan 2017 @ 10:09pm
Loved crafting but agree it should never be forced.

What are the populations and guilds like now?

I stopped playing about 18 months ago but prior to that I noticed even the good guilds were losing people badly and the general population was in decline. Tried it one Friday evening about nine months ago and all the major cites amd L90 zones were virtually empty.

Next to SWG, EQ2 had some of best guilds I belonged to. Miss those days.
Hevoc 25 Jan 2017 @ 2:10am
Population I think has grown since this expansion launched. main towns are empty, but I think people hang in guild halls. Plenty of good guilds on Halls of Fate server. very active community

Listening to them talk about how hard the game is will already shrink much needed playerbase.
MugHug 28 Jan 2017 @ 9:00pm
Takes more then that to decrease a MMO's playerbase.
Hevoc 28 Jan 2017 @ 10:33pm
They have already said they arent after the masses. They dont want the pansies that made WoW and many MMOs what they are today. They want a nice steady smaller group of polayers that appreciate working in groups to achieve complicated quests and kills :)

And the link to that statement by Daybreak?

Being an old SWG/EQ1/EQ2 player since it came out I am curious where you hear that kind of statement unless you are just quoting some hotheads on the forum.
