I want to play Vanilla EQ

I read there are progression servers for Vanilla, are there any currently that aren't too far into their life cycle? I want to play on a server that is as close to the vanilla experience as possible.

I think the closest thing that you will find to original EQ are the "private" servers like "Project 1999."

I've never played it, but I heard that project 1999 is just like how it used to be up to the Velious expansion. I admit that I was disappointed to find that a lot of the old zones that I used to like a lot (South Ro/Oasis of Marr/Ocean of Tears/Nektulos Forest/Lavastorm Mountains) aren't the same zones that they used to be because they were "updated" with new graphics sometime around 2007 apparently with the Prophecy of Ro expansion.

Aradune server will start soon and it will be vanilla style. I suggest you to start to look at it and play there at launch

P99 currently has the "green" server. Its classic old school eq. They follow the same release for patches and expansions as they were back in 1999 (like if there was a patch 2 months after release, theres a patch 2 month after the server started). Zones and graphic are the same sa in 1999, they are not updated. UI also follow 1999 meaning theres no pet window for example. Kunark isnt even released right now on p99 green. This is the ultimate classic eq experience if thats what you want. Sometime after velious release, they will merge with the main server "blue" (which is locked at velious for ever) and start a new classic server following the same rules as green.

I want to make a Halfling and run through Misty Thicket again. I'll never forget zoning into the Gorge and seeing a evil eye for the first time. Sadly, the thrills I had in early day EQ may never be repeated in another game.

There is a new progression server starting around May 27 starting with the original EQ. It unlocks a new expansion every 3 months. Or, the Mangler server is going on now that is a little past the PoP expansion.

Agnarr Server is locked at LDoN. Mangler will unlock LDoN ia couple of Days and won't progress fo 12 weeks. I just started on Manglor. It is pretty close to what I remember when I started, back before Luclin launched.

I have been playing Agnarr Server since launch...It had been the closest to vanilla EQ you can find on official servers. Locked at PoP permanently. Was having a blast...Unfortunately, Daybreak decided to add a thing called "Agents of Change" to the server....wherein, the classic dungeons (Cazic=theule, Sol A, etc) are permanenlty turned into Hi-Level raid zones. Thereby ruining the whole point of a Classic server, locked to PoP... as a result, this "changed" my Subsciption status to "Unsubscribed."

If i understand it right, the Progession Servers are not Free! You need a subsription!

If you want to play vanilla Everquest I suggest Project1999.

On May 27'th they're launching 2 new progression servers. They basically start at classic and every 3 months a new expansion is added. It's a fun way to experience the original EQ with a few of the quality of life improvements/bug fixes that the Live servers have.

Aradone has been out for weeks now and it still a total cluster f#$%. 3-4 hour queues, no response from PR, no refunds, no transfers its really upsetting to spend a bunch of money to start characters and then be unable to even get into game.
Time to find another game its just a money grab there now.
