EverQuest Free-to-Play

EverQuest Free-to-Play

Game won't start, get black screen flash and than closes.
I launch the game through launch pad and then flashes black screen and then crashes and won't start. Tried messing with launchpad settings and still does the same thing and the game won't start. Anyone else have this issue?

I had this problem a few days ago when I decided to play again. I just finished buying a new computer and this was one of the first programs I installed on it. Most of the info I found online seemed to point to reinstalling Direct X 9 but this didn't work for me. I found one forum post that suggested trying to adjust the resolution located in the launcher to 1280X768. (I had it as high as it would go before). This actually worked for me.

Now your problem may not be the same as mine but if this works for you as well then great. It only takes a few minutes to try.

Good luck.

Because of issues, i am forced to try running eq via steam. i will be upset if it is broken for me on steam or the standard launchpad downloadable from the website.

Set the comparability for the eqgame.exe file to windows 7, It should work after that.

YOU! You're awesome. This worked for me after trying just about everything else. Thanks so much!

SOLUTION: It was doing this for me when i got windows 10. what i had to do to get it to launch was this: right click the EQ shortcut icon. click properties. click compatibility tab. check the box for disable fullscreen optimizations. check run as administrator. that should fix it for you. the problem is with the fullscreen optimizations causing it to not launch. you are checking run as admin just to prevent other issues. i hope it works for you. i was really happy when i figured it out. ive been playing EQ since 1999. it always worked until windows 10. i am using the standard daybreak launcher and have the EQ shortcut icon on the desktop. i dont know about using the steam version. you probably just need to find where the EQ icon is on your pc. it should be in the c:\programfiles\steam\steamapps folder somewhere.

Did you transition to the 64 bit client? Because they're phasing out the 32bit.

I am having the same issue and have tried all the previous responses as well as 12 different you tube videos saying they knew how to fix steam game crashes.....
I would really like to be able to play....

I just had to deal with this. I had to get the DX9c 2010 redistributable and install it directly, and then delete EQClient.ini. That let me in and got it to build an ini that works.
