EverQuest Free-to-Play

EverQuest Free-to-Play

Everquest sucks now??
I recently decided to go back to this once neat old game. I remember I used to play it a long time ago, and it used to be pretty good. Its an old school MMORPG, where you could go out and just kill mobs and get decent exp instead of being forced to do quests like other MMORPGs. I would find a zone with mobs close to my level, and just hunt blue and white conned mobs, maybe a few yellows and get good exp for it too it was great.

But now...I see things have been changed. Whites and even just blue mobs, now hit like trucks and basically give such little exp its as if your exp bar doesnt move at all....what the hell did Daybreak do to this once awesome old game?

I dropped group on the warrior, and not using any mercs so he will get max exp. Had the druid spam healing him outside of group(since some of the mobs hit ridiculously hard) Also had a exp potion going on the warrior. Pulled a yellow con spider, and after a long fight and spam healing on the druid the whole time, I got ONE PERCENT exp from the kill....is THIS normal now?

-------------------------------> This way to WoW.

Stop trolling and say something usefull, or is that even possible for you?
Its alot more complicated now. I returned after 8 or so years and I found that playing a progression server is best. Its worth paying the monthly for and it makrs it feel like the older days. Agnarr is the newest progression and as of today is still in original game for another couple weeks and the first expansion will release.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the server wont matter if the "heroic" characters suck so bad as a free player, they cant even handle whites and blues in the zone you start in(the dream). EQ2 has awesome heroic boost characters, even as a F2P player. They are powerful and can handle yellow cons pretty easy. But in EQ1 the heroic characters are completely ripofffs.

For starters are a Free player you're heroic characters will be missing out on over 2500 aa's by not subbing.. Secondly you'll be unable to use any equipment mods.. thirdly a warrior can't solo anything that gives him xp.. PERIOD..

Also EQ 1 is a group centric game,, you aren't going to accomplish anything without a group.. SOE and then Dbreak have made it three hundred percent easier to solo with the addition of mercs but it's still a game centered around groups..

Warriors cant solo anything that gives them exp? So how long have warriors been useless than?
And as far as groups I have 5 accounts and run my own group, and still the mobs that should be easy like whites and blues hit me like trucks, it makes no sense even with the gimped F2P heroics. Thats not my fault, its the crappy way the devs have "heroic" characters...which they charge the same price for free players as they do gold memebers, but for free players they are a complete rip off.

dude, roll a new character on Agnarr, and play EQ the way its meant to play. As a level 1, in your starting city/zome with tons of other players. Server is still on classic, RoK expac releases soon.

Sorry pal I forgot about this post, Im having much better luck now in EQ. Part of the prroblem was I kept forgetting to right click the gear pieces for the built in buffs you get off the heroic characters, as well as learning/using the combat abilities and AA's better. But that server you mentioned, Agnarr, it does sound pretty cool. So what exactly do you mean its "still on classic"?? Does it only go up to a certain level up exp. packs or something? Sorry Im a casual player and coming back to game after so long away Im basically a EQ newbie all over again hehe.

Im having much better luck now, it can still be tough but using the clicky buffs on the heroic gear as well as better use/knowledge of combat abilities and AA's helped a lot. Im wanting to stay free2play as far as monthly fees, but I dont mind buying stuff here and there from the Daybreak store. But...I might possibly buy a month of time on maybe a toon or two that I really like, to unlock the AA's. The AAs you get from a subscription stay with the character even after going bck to F2P, unlike all the prestige gear/augs.
Yes, because is AWFUL OLD MMO. After modern MMO's you delete this game.

2k7 & 2k5 MMO's still better. Better mechanic (+ battle), interface, graphics & design, sound, quests.

In Everquest cool - sense of nostalgia. No more. I play only 4 nostalgia, but in this game extremely awful gameplay.

My advice if you don't want to go pay is to /testcopy all of your characters and then play on the Test Server, The Test Server gives you many of the benefits of a pay account for free.

After that I'd work on the Jonas Dagmire's Skeletal Hand quest until you get back into the swing of the way things work now. The enemies are light blue for the most part at 85 so they provide a trickle of XP without being overly challenging for a new player. You also get a nice augment while getting over the learning phase.

Once you complete that then start farming AC augs for your warrior. At least 25 AC per slot minimum. That's why you can't tank Feerott. 85 boosted characters have no augs and a tank without them is a cripple.

Or you could just say that's too boring and too much loke a job and move on to better games like I did...

I don't know I came back and didn't feel the need to rush or get a heroic character and I am having a great time. F2P is nice but you do miss out on a lot of things like Auto AA and /trade for instance. Not sure I want to pay a monthly fee yet but I did spend money to transfer my toons off a dead server to a live one.

We'll see how it's going next month but I feel a part of the problem is the zones you’re fighting in and the gear you get because I was already PoP geared in my 70tys and now with a few upgrades I am killing things I never would not have been able to before.

It’ll take some time to get used to playing again and with everything you have to get set up like custom UI's, AA's, Hotkeys, Keyboard lay out, Potion belt, ect ect I wouldn't be ready for higher level groups for a while anyway but I am lvling very fast thanks to the new exp system. Glad to hear you got everything figured outed, happy hunting.

Welcome back to EQ!

Cool thanks for the tips, and which game did you go to?
I played elder scrolls for a while. Was fun at first but got repetetive quickly. Repeatedly punching the same attack pattern is not the way to design a game. Looked nice and ran well though.

Now I'm kinda between games playing old crap for nostalgia mostly.

Ya a lot of people like ESO because of it being more simplified on abilities. Most MMORPGs give each character a silly amount of spells/abilities, ESO is a nice change from that plus action based combat, and as you say a beautiful looking game. But I ran into what you also described on the repeatitive deal too a little. Some other fun MMORPGs are RIFT, and TERRA. They both have F2P options too.

I just fired up the game playing my 81 paladin in Loping plains. I used to raid anguish back in the day and last played when 85 was max.

Almost died to a blue bear. Busted a bit of rust off and handled two by root planting them apart. But took absolutely forever. I don't remember it taking this long to kill things in EQ. Nor do I remember light blue and blue being so hard. I replaced my anguish raid gear with best I could buy in bazaar as they were upgrades, so probably undergeared but am still fighting light blue and barely blues.

Wondering if they did some sort of global adjustment to difficulty aimed at the top end players that adversely affected difficulty of lower levels?
