Avitus, terminator armor and Avatar
First; Is Avitus of any use in Terminator armor? Last time I used him (years ago), he was the only one to hold assault cannon, while rest of the squad wielded stormbolters, PLUS terminator armor turned anyone who wears it into a "terraformer" that stomps through the map, smashing trees, barricades, small fortifications... In other words, anything that could be used as cover. And one of Avitus traits is about getting higher accuracy when shooting from cover. Problem: In terminator armor Avitus and his squad eagerly smashes any cover into debris. Is he still like that?

Second; how do I kill that stupid Avatar of Khaine? I couldn't do this back when DOW2 first came out, I couldn't do it when CR came out, and I doubt i can do it now.

Well, in Terminator armor you're practically a walking tank, almost like a Dreadnought, so cover wil just crumble in your wake. In the case of Avitus, his damage output with the assault cannon is greatly increased, much greater than the accuracy bonus you speak of!

The Avatar of Khaine is pretty tough and a good way to do this is to keep your squad outside the arena at all times, and lure him there with Cyrus(who also does decent damage against him with explosives and sniper shots). He will come to the foot of the staircase and go back when you're out of reach. Keep Avitus and Tarkus ready to unleash(with plasma weapons since he is vulnerable to them) when he is close enough. Retreat when at low health, and make sure your squads are far apart because his attacks can cover a large area. You will have to do this a few times, but the Terminator armor is worth it, especially for Chaos Rising.

Well, it ain't called "Tactical Dreadnought Armor" for nothing. And what about rest of his squad? Do they get assault cannons?

As for Avatar, so I guess I have to go with sniper Cyrus, HeavyP Avitus, and plasma on Tarkus. Should I take extra plasma/heavy plasma on my FC? (YES, running throiugh the game for a third time, so... experimenting!.. ...With shooter FC.)

Actually, I just beat the Avatar on Primarch difficulty using mostly Tarkus with plasma. Cyrus is most useful here if you get incapacitated close to the enemy. He can also take off bits of health with his Sniper shot. Problem with Avitus is that his weapons require setup so he might be too slow to dodge any attacks. My FC was melee so he sat out the whole fight along with Avitus, but you can equip him with plasma if you want. Also if you have Orbital Bombardment, then I suggest you use it in this fight towards the end when there are other units close to the Avatar. I hope you're level 20 because you need your squads at your best here.

Basically this fight is about luring the Avatar to the edge of the arena where you activate buffs and hit him as much as you can, while avoiding his attacks. Then retreat to regenerate energy and health and repeat. Also, approach from the right side of the arena because he is easier to reach there. Watch out for prism tanks, their knockback is a real pain.

Avitus got a skill that allows him to instantly deploy/tear his weapons. So I don't think that's a problem.

I actually just up close and personnal kicked it's ass. My method DOES however cost you afew medpacks and is quite dangerous. It's possible both with Purity and corruption. However a terminator Warp assualt can be quite efficient in dealing with the Xenos. Infact Warp assualt can near insta-kill enemy squads. Even on Primarch I believe.

I think we're talking about different Avatars. I was talking about the one in original campaing.
