i encounter the same issue too win 11 but above is the fix that worked for me yay
i decide to post in this thread in case someone is having the same issue as well additionally ive also set compatibility to win 7 and applied the 4gb patch

Just download one dll and all version of DOW works!!

Check , if your drivers are clean installed, thats most of the reason which players have with dow and go to the *.exe file and make compatibility mode xp sp 2, thats all

Drivers should all be up to date, compatibility mode tried with various OS to no success. Bah.

Check my dow2 technical guide on Steam. Can Google it too.

Download the profiler DLL and drop in and replace in each main install folder.

Ha, that did it, thanks! Sadly, I thought I was going to be able to pull up all of my old Last Stand characters and whatnot...but that isn't the case. Womp.

Oddly enough, I am 'Jealous'. When I got all my Heroes up to level 20, I held them there for no less than four years, due to not wanting to lose all that SHWEEET WarGear {I do have buds that can verify my claim} for some 'boo-yah' Elite token nonsense.

Then I finally gave-in... And loved the limitations given me, due to not having ALL the WarGear available. So I had to put into practice, what I thought I had learned, once again.
Learned knew strategies from experience, and observation, and tried them out.

Funny thing, once I got them to 20th again, my playstyles reverted back to my comfort level.
Naturally, I went directly back for the next 'Elite-Token', for the 'uncertainty' of outcomes, that made LS such a joy.

Sitting on 3 Tokens for maybe 7-8 years, I wish I could be in your position, {other than LeaderBoard Position, That a Very Good Team climbed to with me} oddly enough, I can't bring myself to embrace 'self-imposed' WarGear limitations.

Same here after the Windows update from two days ago I cannot play. In-fact I can't even shut the game down. I have to fully sign out of my PC or restart it.

I had spent so much time leveling up each of the heroes that now it's almost too daunting to start from 0 again. I don't even know if there is still a player base.
