Game won't start!

I doubt its a PhysX problem, I've done everything told about it, and it still won't function.

I solved the issue of the game not opening looking for the solution to a problem I had with Syndicate. Turns out if you go to Settings > System > Screen and set your screen to 100% scale instead of the typical 125% it works just fine. The bad news is that you have to play in window mode, full screen doesn't work in my case. The game just doesn't open if I try to play in full screen. I hope this helps

I cannot get this game to start. I wish I had known about this issue prior to purchase- i cannot get a refund. I contacted the developer about the issue and they did not respond- I told them that Steam is selling a copy of a game that does not work- thought that would prompt them to look into the issue- but nothing. My game folder only has a save file wth my account id.
i copy and pasted another users system config into my game folder today. restarted my pc- and nothing changed.
i saved a copy of the config onto my desktop- uninstalled and reinstalled the game- resaved the config- changed the size of my screen to 100% from 125% (so now i can't see anything) and NOTHING.
i cannot play a game i purchased and not only does steam not care- but neither does the dev- and i'm thinking i might just start use GOG more now cause this is BULL

I had the same problem but got a working solution - change the desktop resolution to 1366x768. It seems that game can't go above this on new systems and crashes with "unable to initialize video driver"

Okay, here's how I got it to work (the game wouldn't start from Steam):

1. You are going to want to download "NVIDIA PhysX System Software 9.18.0907". I just went to the NVIDIA website and searched PhysX and downloaded the first driver that popped up. Steam doesn't tell you to do this.

2. Download and make sure that you're running PhysX as admin on your computer. I also did a capability check through Microsoft just to be safe.

3. Then, you are going to want to go to and download the DLL file (linked below):

4. From there, open the DLL file from your downloads AND open the game file for The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. In the "setting" cog to the right of the "Play" button in Steam, there is an option to view the game files. Its easiest if you have both files open at the same time, split screen style.

5. Drag and drop the DLL file into the SH game files. I don't think it matters where the DLL file goes in the game file.

6. Your game should play if everything went according to plan. Happy sleuthing!

I played the game before updating my nvidia driver to latest version. But now, game closes itself after I press play button. I've tried every possible solution provided here but none of them are working unfortunately.

Edit: Windowed mode solution in this thread worked for me: https://steamcommunity.com/app/205650/discussions/0/3818543331786145572/

I also chose Win XP SP3 for compatibility mode and run as administrator on game.exe, and changed my screen size to 100%. Works fine now.

That works! I've changed the screen scale to 100% and the game starts! I also changed the game settings (screen size), and the game runs with any screen scale now.
