You can do that even with 3 pinnacles, but you need many ships in convoy which carry your troops and most important for land battle guns and swords. Simply bring as much ships you can full of crew and weapons and attack several times. Any time you lose battle, attack again. Good thing that pirate hideouts don't have towers like towns so any ship can survive and you can attack again. Towns are different story, don't try to attack without at least 3 corvetes.

Liners can be bought in any English town with port, you just need to be patient, or attack English treasure fleet and capture them.

okay so no one has any idea how to easily take down a pirate stronghold? So its impossible to wear down the defenders with cannon fire like when assaulting towns? And its impossible to send more than one ship load of sailors to attack a pirate stronghold?

I have the same problem when assualting pirate hideouts. I have taken fleets of different ships even up to 10 full of men and it never works. All that happens is all sailers board one ship and sail off to their deaths. I immediately attack again but what often happens is the pirates get ships from nowhere and then I lose men on that round. It is total nonsense you can't just sit off shore and use cannons. It goes round and round endlessly. What a waste of time!

Attacking Pirate Bases are not difficult. As Zen Industries said. Get a number of ships. The more crew per boat the better. Yes onbly one boat moves in but all the troops from all three boats offload. Use a ratio of 2:1 Guns to Swords as your weapons of choice. Do this by buying 2 guns per sword you buy when you are getting ready to attack the Pirate Forts. If you have 10 ships each with 130 troops you have 1300 troops to attack with. Your first attack will kill off a few of the troops in the fort then attack again killing off more troops and keep attacking till you are out of troops or kill the fort..

The best I could do was to
1. Patrol (there's a button to do that) the sea next to the base. Wait a few days so you can kill any pirate ships exiting or entering and thin their numbers
2. get a lot of ships which means a lot of men
3. Just like in sea battles where only the 3 designated warships go into battle, only the 3 warships go into battle against the base. All men from the 3 warships pile into one ship and only one ship goes to port to unload the men. So just press spacebar and watch. Gosh, if it was this non interactive there should just be an automated battle mode like ship to ship combat. So choose your 3 warships wisely. Get the ships with the bigger passenger capacity like liners (get them from English islands) to maximize number of men on 3 ships.
4. after dying, immediately attack again and again and again. Since you have many ships you have large reserves of men available

I have attacked with up to 11 ships in a single fleet and over 2000 men and bought all the guns and swords I can carry. I get that only the three warships (I usually use Wargallons) attack with only the total number of those ships. The attack fails. I attack again and often, as I said, hit a pirate fleet. Then I win and get more ships but not men of course. I attack the pirate base but often they have regenerated their numbers back to 1,000+ and I only have 690 or so. Attack fails. Eventually even with 10+ ships I run out of men and give up. It has become very pointless attacking pirate strongholds. Why the game doesn't allow offshore bombing is silly. In real life navys would just canon the enemy before landing. I have personally given up on pirate bases to much wasted time as nothing ever works.

I usually dont see any regeneration of pirates on the base. Try replacing your 3 wargalleons with liners for more men. I dont know what ratio of muskets and swords is optimal

Thanks I'll give it another shot (pun intended). :)

also, dont change your captains around too much. They gain experience from each attempt at attacking a pirate lair and I'm not entirely sure but a more experienced captain will of course be more effective.

I do try to keep moving captains down to a minimum. I appreciate all your suggestions and advice. :-)

if all else fails you can just try to cheat with the program called cheat engine
CleverwiseNow Apr 12, 2015 @ 9:03am
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again.
