Help for a new player
I only just started playing PR3 and I'm wondering if the UI can be enlarged? I'm using 1080p graphics but that makes all the UI elements shrink yet if I use a lower setting it all gets blurry because my monitor is 1080p so is there a UI scale setting somewhere?

you must have a tiny screen to have this problem. go out and buy a 27" that will solve your problem.
I have never come across the ability to enlarge the ui elements

I already have a 27" monitor and in native Resolution 1080p the UI elements are pretty tiny. In order to play the game I've lowered my resoultion to 720p and now the UI fills up the screen. like it does in all of the tutorial videos.

UI Sclaing is quite easy to do with most engines but they dont always expose that option to the players. Given that there are bugs in the game that haven't been fixed in years, i'm not terribly impressed with Kalypso's customer service so I wont hold my breath waiting for UI Scaling.

hmm -- on my screen the ui and i asume you mean the small dialog windows around the screen where you can get the mission info fleet info mini map etc, so as i havent - oh i can i have to use the steam version i wil try that but i was going to say my ui is fine?? eg the nautical chart at the top middle is aan info window that lets you know the state of the nations -- their status with each other - well that one measures 11 cms across - plenty big enough -- is yours not that size?? I will start game in steam and upload a scren shot and then you can see the ui size on my screen. Presuming yours is some how tinier than my screen.

i just uploaded screen shots of my current game so you can see the ui of my pc if mine are more like you want but different to yours then I do not know why they would be different.
You can click on me then my profile then screen shots. Curious to see if my game displays differently. I have both versions ie steam and kalypso as i prefere kalypsos start up screen - no updating steam which takes ages.
You may have to go and buy the gold version at the shop where you get a map and all the add ons and then maybe the correct ui size.

When I say 'UI' I am referring to the onscreen elements like the minimap and the other Edge items... I looked at your screenshots and your screen looks like mine at high res. However I am also referring to the pop-up windows like the Trade Window.

When I use my Native Resolution of 1080p to play the game, all of the game UI elements are smaller. I am visually impaired already so I frequently need a magnifier to read text elements unless they are using a huge font, but the text on PR3 with max resolution is so small that it is a real strain for me to read even with a magnifier. Also when I watch a tutorial video of gameplay 'in-game' during the Campaign Task updates, the UI was always bigger. So I turned down my graphics to 720p and now my UI looks just like the one in the videos. I dont like to do this usually because using 720p on my 1080p monitor causes a little blurriness on the edges of text and when you have to use a magnifier to read, blurriness is also magnified.

All in all, i'm not having any performance issues with PR3, just one other Bug that isn't a big deal. (After the Tutorial is over in the Trade Mission, the CTRL key noo longer functions in towns to Show Names on buildings. It is a known issue though that still isn't fixed.) Otherwise all is well. I've gotten used to the 720p look now and I am progressing through the Campaign. I just built my Rum Distilleries in PR so that is where my game is and i'm accustomed to the interface now.

sorry to hear that - cataracs?? I had those and now have implants brilliant.

just put your cursor over the building and its name will appear - left control or not.
Llywylln Feb 27, 2016 @ 8:04pm
Not cataracts, it's actually a disease so rare that the doctors have never 'settled' on it's name. It's about a 1 in 25 million thing, so there is no 'foundation' or research for it. Anyhow.

I'm aware that by mousing over a building I can see the name. There are just so darn many of them that hunting for one is troublesome.

It appears there is a setting you can change, you'd need to edit the options.cfg file.
(On my system it was located at:
C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Kalypso Media\Port Royale 3 )
Edit the file with a text editor (notepad, notepad++ etc), find the entry:
UIUpscaling = 0

Change it to:
UIUpscaling = 1

Then Save the file.

It just toggles upscaling on. You will notice the UI isn't replaced by better textures it's just "Upscaled" to fit, which is probably why it's a hidden setting as it was probably considered not to meet QA.
