Either I've been played because the cheap offer for this game seemed to good to be true or this is actually broken.

I bought the game of the Steam Store. Didn't know I required a disc before purchasing -_-

If anyone has a fix please share.

If you have a CD in your computer, take it out before starting the game.

If you don't have CD drive: download any CD drive emulation program (Alcohol, UltraISO, Deamon T., etc.), install and play :)

I've got the same problem. Why do I have to insert a CD for a game I have purchased via Steam? (Note: a CD is not in the drive.)

I beleive computers that have CD emulating software, computers with a CD drive with any CD in it and computers that lack a CD drive all have this problem.

im running windows 7 and tried mounting and running with no luck. i have no cd drive, tried everything i can think of and still asks to insert disk 1 upon load!!!!!! >.< wtf i hate steam sometimes

No CD in my drive and I'm having this issue as well.

It worked for me now the game says it needs 8MB ram to run, I have 8GB ram i7 win7 64bit

The main problem Balthazod is your system is far far beyound what the inprinted system scan for game sees, so it thinks you don't have sufficient memory because your memory is not recognized.
So, I'll see how well I can troubleshoot this game tomorrow, something to put my expertise to hehe.

how to launch Red Faction 2 on new PCs (I haveWindows 8.1 x64):
1. install game
2. google for file mfpatchsteam.exe, patch rf2.exe via that file
3. google for "red faction 2 iso", download it from any torrent, mount it, launch game (via rf2.exe from game folder)
