Main character and pawn vocation
can you give me some advice? I'm in doubt whether to start with the archer or mage vocation, the one that inspires me so much is that of the archer and it really matches my style of play, but the mage also inspires me a lot. my goal is to build the archer mage hybrid build. Which of the two do you recommend to start with? regarding the pawn I was thinking of a warrior.

Sounds like you want to be a magic archer, i'd say start as a archer if you want to go that way as it seems that magic archer and normal archer will share the same armor type.

A warrior pawn is a good choice for your selected choices in vocations for your arisen.

I would think the best combo would be a ranged (Mage or Archer) coupled with a melee (Fighter or Thief), but you can do whatever you want and rent pawns to cover your weakness.

I always pick glass cannon mage for my first playthrough. Dunno if this was the help you wanted but there it is anyways lol

Sorcerers will most likely still one shot monsters, either as your main character, or PAWN.

Personally imma make an Archer first, and once the new vocations open up, I plan on being the spear fighter one, because it's the most appealing to me.

Of course my Main Pawn is either going to be a Sorcerer, or Mage, mainly for rift point farming, because just like the first game, I imagine they're going to one of the strongest type of Pawns people will want in their parties, just for the one shotting, and healing alone.

Well i'm starting as a fighter with a fighter pawn.. If it works like the last game pawns tend to learn from your actions and ways of fighting.. so weird things like a mage trying to climb up a cyclops can happen if your not careful :zaglol: Dunno if they 'fixed' that this time around.
my main fighter-warrior then sb then the jack of all trades one
pawn fighter-warrior

From what I can see, a basic Archer seems to play more like the Magic Archer than the mage does, from the gameplay they've shown.
That said, you can change vocations in game, so just try both and play the one you like more.

Thanks so much for the advice. I think I'll start with the archer and try the mage as well. only one thing I didn't understand very well, before moving on to the hybrid class you can add other vocations to the basic vocation from the teachers in the villages from what I understand, is that right? and from that moment on can you switch from one vocation to another? How many other vocations can you choose beyond the basic one? sorry for all the questions but I only played the first one partially and I don't remember anything.

If I remember what's been said correctly, you start with the 4 basic vocations- fighter, thief, archer, and mage- unlocked at the start. The others you have to find a master for the vocation for the skill somewhere to unlock for use.
Assuming things work as they did in the last game, you can't have active skills from one vocation on another (a fighter doesn't have a bow, what would they do with archer skills?) but there are some passive abilities you can use on any vocation once you buy them.

Well if it's like the first game you can switch to any vocation you have unlocked while in town. Hybrid vocations were player only. You had to spend a resource that you earned in combat to unlock new Vocations or to upgrade the abilities of vocations you currently had. Passive abilities could be used outside the Vocation it originated in.

Can't go wrong with Fighter/Mage combo. Don't need to rely too much on a fighter pawn, all they have to do is distract so you can get your big spells off. That's what I did in the first game, had very few issues with difficulty. Never hired other pawns, just used my 1 pawn.

Starting I am going fighter arisen and archer pawn (all three full and current 4th playthrough of DD:DA alacia has been a strider main only changing to level up the others for passives and stats).

I still have no idea what vocation I will main as I kinda want to try out llusionist (moves like a dancer a class most games really need to add a class of) and mystic spearhand (looks like darth maul) more than any other class, but I tend to play ranged so typically swapped between strider and magic archer all the time in every playthrough. Been playing on and off for 12 years and have not once tried assassin.

I mained Assassin for a long time.. It's basically just a strider with swords and shields being optional.

I heard they are great but since I mainly used bow/magic bow and daggers I never saw the point of trying it out. I almost unlocked it before I logged off last night as I had just maxed mage but went with ranger instead. So far on this playthrough I went fighter to max for some extra hp, strider for about 10 extra levels past the point I maxed it for more stamina then sorcerer back to strider for a few then mage for the passives needed for MA. got warrior to 9 off and on during all that. Now I am on ranger then will probably go to assassin.....for the first time in twelve years.....and MK at some point (never really liked it, probably because the shield is mainly on your back and looks dumb to me).

I completely agree about MK. Assassin is basically a more damage focus strider. It has the best Strength stat gain per level of any class. So it hits very hard if you use the right skills and passives. Of course strider itself is not any worse off if you ask me.
