Dragon's Dogma Anime
I only very recently came across Dragon's Dogma and after playing a bit of the first game it didn't take me long to grow a liking to it, so much so that I found myself very surprised with how this game managed to slip by my radar for so long.

Looking forward to the sequel and only just heard that there was an Anime series produced and was thinking of checking it out.

I know it can be hard to say with how sequels work and the fact this game isn't even out yet but would it spoil anything watching the anime before playing this one?

Also I noticed that the Anime had quite a lot of mixed ratings so i'm unsure what the wider fan-base actually thinks of it and I am interested to know.

Cheers all :retro_beer:

The anime stays pretty true to the original game's visuals, but fails in every other aspect. The plots of each episode are laughable and the seven deadly sins motif is incredibly hamfisted, with them going so far as to ignore the lore of the entire cycle from the first game to force it. Every character just becomes an insane moron at some point to force in them succumbing to their "sin" which feels out of place and inconsistent most of the time or absurdly predictable the rest of the time. It completely fails to capture the original game's plot or setting to such an extent that it feels like an intentional mockery at some points. The animation is pretty cheap although the fight scenes are pretty good otherwise. The only good character in the show is the MC's pawn.

Ah that's unfortunate to hear, I was wondering why it had such mixed ratings.
In that case I think i'll just stick to the games and pretend the Anime doesn't exist then, thanks for the help with that :cozybethesda:

To be fair, many franchises suffer that. Everyone in the Dragon Ball fanbase does their damnedest to forget the Live Action Dragon Ball Movie XD

Even the lead actor apologized for that one.

Yeah now that I think about it some more it does tend to happen quite a bit to popular franchises, just had PTSD flash backs of the Netflix Live Action adaption of Death Note :esc_skull:

He shouldn't have. He was an aspiring actor. The ones who suck are the ones who wrote the damned script and published the movie. Massively stupid how they (actors) don't have any input on the movie (unless they're giant name celebrities) yet they get all the flack if a movie flops, and the ones actually responsible just shuffle away to their next disaster.

Yeah...Usually the best course of action when there's an anime adaptation. I hear the Castlevania one is decent, and it is. But...Almost not where I come in as a fan of the games?

....I mean it takes them like ONE episode to go through the whole dang castle.
When I saw it and even still now I didn't know the story of the original DD game so idk how accurate it was but as its own thing, I thought it was terrible. Also, I feel like I remember it being 3d and not the good kind of 3d anime, though let's be honest how much 3d anime is actually good.

So all in all the anime was garbage, don't bother watching it.

anime has pretty much nothing to do with the game and is hated by hardcore fans, I like it, it tells a different story which is based on the original, and thats fine, no reason to retell the same events that you find into the game.

I enjoyed it for what it was. I actually wished they would have continued it. I just love everything DD.

can watch anime without worrying about spoilers. This is because they only things that are similar between the games an anime is the monsters. everything else deviates or butchers the lore of the series.

In a vacuum its average.

I've heard the Castelvania one is good from people who've never played Castlevania games before in their life, I don't think I've ever heard it from fans of the games, except some saying "it's good on its own but a bad adaptation."

the game slipped by most peoples Radar. Dragons Dogma 1 never was a huge attraction. but DD2 sure is

I never watched the Anime, considering we barely have information about the game I dont think the Anime can do it justice. after DD2 and the vast amount of Knowledge the Finished product of DD will give, an Anime about it would make sense. but the DD anime idk. I doubt its good.

DD as a video game is really hard to put in a TV show format. Not without it lasting multiple seasons, in my opinion. So it didn't really surprise me that they had to change the story in the anime.

Everything about it is aggressively average - characters, story, dialogues, animations. It's just not a lot fun to watch for me personally. In substance, a hugely wasted chance on their part.

"Average" is being extremely generous to it.
