So it's pretty much a given "your" pawn is never going to get hired, right?
Unless you have a friends circle playing or make your pawn look like a celebrity or famous character...or if you happen to make one that gets high rank the first week.

K. But why does maxing out everything first week matter?
Ima just play this game at an enjoyable pace like the one before it. Eventually. your pawn will be max.

Just wait therell be guides to having some meta build for the pawn that everyone will hire. Just matter of time.

So perhaps the average player probably use 4 different pawns every 5-10 levels or so. I think that improves chances significantly.

Not...necessarily. Having pawns 25+ lvls below your main had some kind of benefit if i remember correctly. I think that gave you maximum xp or something in DD1

You wouldnt want that for every scenario obviously. but i guess it was good for fastest main lvling early on.

When I hire pawns in DD 1, I only care if they have good/useful skills and nothing else. If you make a useful pawn, it will get hired for sure.
GamerNinja Mar 18, 2024 @ 1:48pm
I dont hire goofy looking or celebrity pawns ever. I useally go for well done orig looking characters. The stats/ skills are a after thought. Dont really like having over powered pawns in my group. Also if its done like DD1 you cant hire pawns that are way higher lvl then you without paying a huge cost.....other then friends pawns that were always free.

off-topic but I expect a repeat of part 1. By the time you're looping the end game dungeon you will find you can hire any pawn, because you can carry them through anything. This game design makes sense for giving beginner-mid players xp. If that wasn't possible you'd just rent high level pawns or none at all and that wasn't the case for part 1 looping Bitterblack.

On-topic:

or if you happen to make one that gets high rank the first week.

It's going to be hard to crack the top 100/200 rankings, especially the top ones once they're 'established'. Just like part 1, popularity becomes self-fulfilling and the cycle can't be stopped. Like a fusion reactor sun in Spiderman 2 film.

Which naturally leads to people making popular pawns as quickly as possible. Ergo. . . trainers, cheats, mods, then uploading them to the server. They don't have to adjust pawn numbers directly if the server can detect anomalies, just blast through the game with 1-hit kills and super-speed etc. Collecting the right loot, and upgrading it to max to give to their pawn.

The server will have all-time rankings and, like part 1, there will also be popular 'this month' rankings too.

Unless you have a friends circle playing or make your pawn look like a celebrity or famous character...

You can join pawn sharing clubs for "scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours" on reddit. Why reddit? because someone there manages their own database/spreadsheet to keep track of rents and you can see what the pawn's details are (inclinations, vocation, boons they have etc). Other forums will have threads like gamefaqs but probably won't have a database.

A lot of people drop out of the pawn sharing clubs because they realize their pawns are always changing as they play through the game. Secondly they don't really know what they're doing, but still have to update the database on every change. It's no longer fun once they realize they can't just name drop their pawn and leave it like that. They have to update the database that their pawn is no longer a mage but a warrior experimenting and low in vocation points with a lot of the skills still to be unlocked etc. Not worth the hassle.

It's best to join pawn sharing clubs like on reddit once you've 'finalized' your pawn. Not really a good idea joining starting out and learning the game. You're not gonna be running to reddit and saying "ok my pawn is a crappy warrior now with none of the top skills learnt". . . 5 minutes later, "ok my pawn is now exprimenting with sorcerer". Get outta here.

You would get more XPs from combat with lower level pawns.
I used to get some good ones that worked well for me and keep them for quite a while. They usually carried their weight.

Exception with BBI though. Especially the deeper levels.

I've only used on level pawns from random people in the first one so far. Not that I'm very far in yet (lvl 30ish). But I've been switching out every few levels to on level, picking from the first group to show up when I use that stone. Haven't cared about looks are anything yet, just caster vs melee depending on need.

So you'll just have to get lucky with people who don't have friends playing this game. I don't seem to have any who played the first. Also, I see people on those forums getting max level pawns, which I'm assuming makes most of the game extremely easy. That part doesn't sound fun to me.

In the first game I got tens of millions of RC from random people... Just make a pawn which is both interesting to look at and good at its job.
Ragnin Mar 18, 2024 @ 6:56pm
I just assume a pawn sharing group will start up just like it existed for the first one. Join it and usually you'll have no trouble getting your pawn rented.

The first one most people didn't release how much your pawn's inclinations mattered for getting your pawn rented. I just replayed it and so many pawns had bad inclinations. Hopefully that won't be an issue for the second game.
Kai Mar 18, 2024 @ 6:58pm
Pawns you 'rent' do not level up in your game. They do bring back EXP and will level up in their owner's game, and when sent out again will update the new level.

The game actually lets you grab pawns that are higher level than you to recruit but the game uses a currency system and it will be very expensive to get someone who is end game levels.

I will hire your pawn!

It will be fine as long as they let you see by default the pawns of recently active accounts. Later on I don't want to be recommended pawns whose players haven't been on in months. I want to see the ones who can actually reciprocate.
Damien Scott Mar 18, 2024 @ 7:23pm
My pawn has been used 3-4 times over the past week in the first game and it's nothing special. I'm sure it'll be fine.
