If you're playing on a windows PC, pretty sure you need to go into settings>system>audio and select one of your other audio devices. Maybe you've tried this but it's what I'd look at first. The audio setting in DD2 only impacts the audio quality being output from the game - spatial processing, eq, dynamic range - stuff like that. If you're on a console, maybe someone else can chime in.

Sometimes I switch between my wireless headphones and my studio speakers. I have quite a few games where this wouldn't work in a running game and I have to restart. Not so in DD2, so I'm a little surprised that anyone here is having problems. It works automatically for me and I don't even need to go into the sound settings.

So I'd say it's unlikely that the game is the culprit.

Not very helpful, I know, except maybe to narrow down the troubleshooting a bit.

yes i have tried changing it via windows settings still doesn't work. so i tried it on my other more budget pc that i use for home media stuff and it works fine there, as in i was using a bluetooth speaker and changed it to my monitor speaker and it changed. difference is that my main pc is a 5800x and rx 6900xt whilst my secondary pc is an old i7 4770k and a 2070 super.

But swapping them outside the game works? Because there is no need for ingame settings, it should be autodetected, even without rebooting the game.

yes it's probably the game because even if my wireless headset is turned off it wont pick up my current in use headphones no other games are ever like this.

I don't have any “default settings”, maybe that's why? When I look at my sound options (in Windows) and turn off all sound devices, my sound options show “no sources”, as expected. It's all based on auto detection on my system.

Are you running Windows 10 or 11? It's 10 here and I don't know anything about 11. If it's different there, I'm afraid I can't help. If it is indeed the game, why am I not having any problems? Does that make sense?

The game has to take audio signals as they come from windows. There's no way a game provides a complete library of audio drivers. So it must be your system, no matter whether it's windows 10 or 11.

i thought default setting for sound would be what you are using at the moment also yes windows 11 is my primary OS. windows 10 on my secondary pc with an nvidia card seems to be working fine. idk how to enable auto detect because i use multiple sources for my audio output.

I use USB monitor speakers and wireless headphones via bluetooth. Switching while the game is running usually works fine, but strangely enough in DD2 of all games. With many other games, I at least have to restart them if they don't hang up straight away. But this is Windows 10 (I wouldn't even know how to screw that up).

edit:
I have just realized that I contradicted myself above. The program must very well have something to do with it, but it is not DD2 specific with exactly this effect. In Lichess, for example, an online chess platform, switching the audio devices does not work for me. In order for the new device to be recognized, I have to reload the page.

resetting my pc seems to have fixed it and now it uses the correct audio output.
