Gotta remember that unlike in the first game, the armor in this game is built around sharing certain pieces amongst more vocations than they used to. For example, Spearhands dragon gear has its own helmet and chest that matches nicely, but they share the legs with magick archer.
The biggest thing is that they learned that people REALLY like to mix and match tops with bottoms, so they made the majority of the leg armour generic set pieces that you can choose to best suit your top. Its the same with cloaks now, especially since some cloaks can alter armor appearances. However, most chest pieces do have a matching bottom and helmet.
Ya that sounds like biggest cop out on this game yet. Can’t even be arsed to give either vocation in your example their own full set? That’s bs.
No winning for players in that regard, and there’s no conceivable way that “streamlines” a dress rpg for the better. To defend it is to forgive devs cutting corners on something easily could have put in but guess just didn’t care enough to bother? Like I troll in here lightly but really have been checking in to get real sense. So fing glad didn’t give them a second chance. Sounds like I care more about DD than these devs do, and I barely care about it as a franchise.
Some armor pieces will be available for 3 or more vocations, thats fine. Its still going to be primarily be a set piece for a different class, you just might not be able to equip all of it if you arent, lets say... an archer and instead your a magick archer.
The armor quality is better than it was in the first game, even if there was less of it (lets be honest, equipping which underwear to equip that was only visible with mods was a bad choice for the first game anyways). But DD:DA was an expansionary remaster and added a ♥♥♥♥ ton of armor anyways. DD2 is roughly on par with core DD gear options.
There are full sets for each vocation. There's just a lot more individual armour pieces to go around.
Fair, but I posted those three examples specifically because they have no matching pieces in the areas I specified.
The Spearhand chest I listed "Could" be matched with the fighter specific endgame set, though It is not a perfect match. As for instance the hue of the metallic's aren't matching, the helmet is extremely disproportionate in size to the chest piece, and as I said earlier, the elemental resistances themselves don't match up. (It can be easily determined that elemental resistances are the best way to figure out which pieces of gear are intended matches.)
The Magic Archer and fighter set I listed also don't have a single piece of gear that looks right with them in their respective missing categories. I find that extremely disappointing as it's supposed to be the best in slot endgame gear for both classes.
I see no reason as to not just make them all full sets of gear as they will all be naturally interchangeable anyways. Unless the full sets were cut due to deadlines or lack of care in overall quality. Elden ring is a prime example as most of if not all armor in that game belonged to a predetermined set of gear in design and function.
So far, the only leg armor that I've seen that has matching elemental and ailment resists to Ancient Galea/Resonance Armor is the Crimson Hosen. And those do not go together aesthetically.
I'm also kind of torn on how cloaks and capes are handled. On one hand, it's nice that they're basically only cosmetic, but on the other hand, I kinda wish they were at least enhancable like the first game.
