A Case of Sculptor's Block
Griffon just flies off after a couple minutes.

I killed it though, and he was unsatisfied - if its dead and lying there, he'll have all the time he needs to sketch it, right? So what's the issue?

He wants it basically in perfect condition. I know of two ways it can be done.
- Use the sleep arrow on Magic Archer.
- Petrify it with Medusa's head.

You can also use fire to incapacitate the griffin over and over again to prolong the fight. Just tell the pawns to not fight and don't attack it when not necessary. Worked for me.

I think this quest has 3 tiers of rewards.

The fight ends fast, either killing quickly or the griffin escapes: he doesn't get a good action stance for the statue, poor reward.

The fight is drawn out for a decent amount of time: he witnesses the griffin in battle and can get a better action pose: middle reward.

Spoiler: You use a medusa head to peteify the griffin mid battle: he can observe every detail of the griffin as it fights for not only detailed features, but a lifelike stance as it battles: best reward.

If it's dead, it's not in a good pose. Many artists use an articulated doll as a reference when drawing characters in certain poses, which is what he's trying to do.

the value for the quest reward with petrification is lost if you use a ferrystone and portcrystal to preserve the head. I recommend the sleep arrow as the safest option.
