So?

Makes sense. Reversion to the mean. DD1 had a peak of 27k - but since it wasn't actually a new game, and it was almost a decade ago, that makes sense.

I'm guessing the average will probably approach around 3k within a year, dipping to 1k periodically.

I know I'll probably be playing DD1 more than DD2 in terms of replays though. I'm kind of having a hard time even wanting to finish it the first time around.

Will the game ever make a return? Perhaps after optimisation patches and much needed content or is it too late?

Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate 3 still going strong, this a major letdown by CAPCOM for sure

It's a Singleplayer game and the honeymoon phase is over.

No big surprise, people moving on to the new toys.

I don't understand these types of threads. There could be 5 players playing the game. What's it matter after the purchase of the product for this type of single player game?

Elden Ring came out over 2 years ago and still has a higher player count, DD2 hasn't even been out for a month....

elden ring has a coop mod that over 3m people downloaded and probably still play.
this game sold 2.5m in two weeks which is the sales window for early buyers. not even comparable.

I liked DD2 but it just didn't have that much staying power. You quickly become too powerful, and the linear progression that quickly caps for gear (where the best is all vendor-bought) undermines exploration.

There's also clearly an enemy variety problem and also one with variety in the composition of enemy groups.

But I don't pay that much attention to player count tbh. Not in a singleplayer game where it doesn't affect me.

Yeah no end game. New game is pointless. I don't see many people staying after they finish the game.
