Not that I am aware of.

They got rid of evil eye, hyrda, and death, we got medusa, dullahan, and I guess talos?

Nope, and given how "very specific Hasbro owned game fantasy adjacent" stuff like Pathfinder and others have had to get rid of all their WoTC "legal likeness" monsters, it may not come back in the form you expect it to, if at all.

didn't know/think they did that, but it's wizards of the coast and he is eluding to D&D saying don't use our monsters.....did the beholder originate from D&D? I didn't think so, so why would they be able to claim it. Time to do research.

---update---

Apparently they did make it up:

"Unlike many other Dungeons & Dragons monsters, the beholder is an original creation for D&D, as it is not based on a creature from mythology or other fiction. Rob Kuntz's brother Terry Kuntz created the Beholder, and Gary Gygax detailed it for publication"

Bruh.

Beholder is literally a SIGNATURE DnD monster, literally on the cover of Greyhawk.

I know it's the signature monster, but thought it was based on mythology like a lot of monsters in fantasy games.

I looked it up and posted it in my update. You are REALLY invested in D&D and I'm sorry I hit a nerve.

How can you copyrite an eyeball? Plus an Evileye/gazer ect is now a popular popculture monster. It would be like whomever own Lord of the rings sueing fromsoftware for using the eye of chaos as its similar to the eye of Sauron
EinTheCorgi Apr 11, 2024 @ 10:53pm
Is WOTC going to sue the goblin slayer manga artist for having the MC fight an evil eye?
