No swimming mechanics still.
I understand that they did not implement such a thing due to budget problems during the first game and added "brine" where you are teleported back on ground. But why exactly would they leave it in the sequel? You legitimately won't be able to traverse water less than 1 meter/3 feet deep.

they made the brine into a lore thing... so it would be strange for it not to exist in the sequel... especially since certain enemies (like that giant colossus thing) seem to be tied directly to the brine

Of course it had an extremely vague, minimal lore explanation to not make it weird. But now it's weird that it's still a thing in 2024 and lore isn't carved in stone, it can be evolved or retconned, dragon's dogma 2 itself is a soft reboot since the cycle was broken in the 1st game.

Here's an Idea. We get an optional endgame quest vanquish the root of the Brine and unlock underwater travel! 😉

Or.... we wait for an expansion:

People will complain about anything - "Oh no I can't swim even tho there is absolutely no reason for me to be able to swim coz there is nothing out there"

I mean say they put in swimming now what? You think they are going to make the ocean less boring?

How about the idea that you wont be traversing water you can't walk through period because the devs know you can't get there. It's called level design.

casuals focusing on things that are not required in order to ship a good game

no offense mate but if you want a game that only focuses on unnecessary details to the detriment of gameplay and plot, then there are the rockstar kusoges that frequently go on sale ( gta and red dead 2 )

it's not their fault. talentless hacks that have infested videogame development for the past 20 years, have diverted the focus of what games can achieve.

the games industry is desperate to become just like hollywood instead of carving their own identity and the reason for that is simple. cater to the lowest common denominator

God only knows how people could get through the Dark Souls series without being able to swim or jump.

With such limited traversal mechanics we all know ts impossible to get places :zaglol:

I quit elden ring, doxxed gabe, bullied grrm on his porch, travelled to japan and spat on miyazaki's family once I reached the mountain top of the giants and noticed that cheeky bloke torrent has no testicles that can shrink in cold weather.

my day was ruined and my disappointment immeasurable

It isn't weird at all. If you don't like it, don't play it, go play a game that features swimming. 2024 has nothing to do with anything, there are decades old games that are far superior than 99% of modern games.

If you are interested in meaningless and worthless lore full with "evolved or retconned" elements, go consume the garbage western entertainment filth made for the low IQ masses.

Wrong. It is a new Dragon's Dogma game set in one of the many parallel universes of Dragon's Dogma. It is not a soft reboot.

It wouldn't add anything to the game, so why have it.
H-Foundry PIXIV Feb 18, 2024 @ 6:47am
Like in an ideal world it would open up lots of options and exploration (if done well), new mechanics, vocations/perks etc, but don't expect it to be a thing.

Swimming mechanic and designing new areas just for that is beyond the scope of the games budget anyway. Not even mad. It's the sort of thing they'd do for part 3 if part 2 did yuuuge sales numbers.
Wingus Dingus Feb 18, 2024 @ 7:58am
Itsuno's the kind of guy that if swimming mechanics were in the game it'd drain stamina so quickly as to not be worth doing it until higher levels and require a light weight load or else you'd sink to the bottom and drown. It's why I love the guy, honestly.

It would. Do you know many fantasy games with underwater content? It is the untapped potential so far. Tritons, mermaids, kelpies, krakens, sirens, deep ones and such.
