It is normal. You see the name on the left down side.
I like it that way, but perhaps look in the options if you need that.
But really, it's more immersive with it and just taking your time to look at who is who.
Reminds me of those backer/poetry characters in Pillars of Eternity - 'interesting' the first 12 or so times, then you're googling how to remove them from the game.
Fortunately, there is a mod that forces them to stop at least forcing you into conversations. But it helps a ton to see names and avoid re-talking to NPC or pawns.
That reminds me - I wish more RPGs had an indicator on NPCs that lets you know if they have something new to say. It really helps in the RPGs that do that.
