I agree wholeheartedly. Even with my mediocre system and adjusted expectations of the technical aspects, I would have paid even more. But for anyone who considers themselves a mainstream gamer with mainstream expectations and habits, I can't seriously recommend this game. It's very different from anything I've played before, but for me it hits the mark.
Please note that I'm old school, which gives me a very different perspective to games and gaming as such.
Personally I would rate it as being worthwhile in the $20-30 range. This comes from a longstanding DD fan, who played the original back in 2012 - I think DD1 is overall a better game in most respects besides some that may or may not be superficial to you such as graphical fidelity. It's also significantly cheaper, I believe.
My personal suggestion is, if you haven't played either game, try and get dragon's dogma: dark arisen on sale for a cheap price. If you really enjoy that game and just want more dragon's dogma and don't mind a couple things being dumbed down then dd2 might be worth it. Personally I am very dissapointed with dd2 although it's not like it's a horrible game or anything. It's a very good looking game so that may be more of a selling point for you than it is for me.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is a soft reboot which made many mechanics lot worse and didn't improve anything from the previous game. It's simply very irritating to play.
DD2 is worth buying when they inevitably release an expansion DLC and if they are actually doing anything to improve the game. Until then... do not waste your money.
