How far is 2 hours going to get me, realistically?
So I'm expected to download the character creator and get that out of the way first before starting my 2 hour timed trial, I assume, and even then I barely have enough time to get through the tutorial, yeah?

EDIT: so far I've gathered that the tutorial takes 10-20 minutes, the open world is available immediately after that, and some guy telling me to not grope food?

I guess I should clarify I include walking behind an oxcart for an excruciatingly long time part of the tutorial, if I'm allowed to make comparisons to the first game...

Answer: a benchmark basically.

No skills, no advanced classes, no gear, untrained pawns. What this timespan will get you is probably the graphics and the interface, and very basic exploration experience.

They are separate programs, so take as long as you like in the external character creator software... Then when you launch the main game and get through the tutorial 10 - 20 minutes, maybe... Then when the time comes you can import you created character & pawn from there.

Or make them both in game from scratch.
can i get to the main city and big open world before the 2 hours mark? i just want to test this game at high settings before planning on buying it?

if you run by everything, skip dialogue, pick a pre-made character (in-game or from character creator.) you can experience plenty of combat and town.

Going into the game blind there is very little chance that you will see the capital within the first two hours. You can rush there in 30-60 minutes if you know what you're doing, or way faster if you are legit speedrunning, but you won't get there within 2 hours by playing the game organically. The open world is available right after the tutorial, so that one you have plenty time to assess.

This is honestly probably one of the worst types of games to do a trial for. Most people will probably waste half the time making a character (don't know about separate character creation), and by time the starting tutorials and cutscenes are over, it's done. What exactly will people see that will get them to even buy the game at that point?

A trial would work if it were a free weekend like EVERY OTHER FREE TRIAL ON STEAM

I'm just not interested in wasting my time watching an ox carry a cart over a mountain like the first game.

Good things like a game are to be savored slowly. If you buy a game and just rush through it to quickly finish it asap, it is wasting your money just like groping down expensive food quickly and do not really know its taste compared to cheap food. My 2 cent is, play this game slowly and explore the world. That way you get back the money you spent in this game.

wtf are you on about?????? I asked about the free trial and what I might be able to experience within the first 2 hours of it, not for your advice on how to savor every morsel of a game???? Not to mention no getting your money's "worth" is not the same as getting it "back"

If you have a older pc/rig, you might lose a lot of time setting the best graphics level so you can run the game.
