I've only played a couple of side missions, but my archer is weak even with manual aim and new bows. does he get stronger or should i change vocations. I love archers but for f sake, its looking like i'm the help out there

Archer is a snowballing class. It is trash to start but gets exponentially better the higher your vocation level.

Also having special arrows help a lot. Like tar arrow and exposive one mixed is deadly toward griffins.

I agree that archer dps seems meh if you're just spamming skills like nearly all other vocations. .

However when I force myself into playing more "tactically" i.e. no longer spamming shots but trying to snipe weakpoints accurately, my experience with the class improved greatly.
For burst-dps, few things can compare with 2 well-placed Erupting (Explosive) shots.

Besides, archers can reliably apply most powerful dps debuffs in the game (Blighted and Torched), plus debuffs that can also combo very well with other vocations (Drenched into Frozen & Tarred into Knockdown).

Lastly, apart from Warfarer, archer is the only class that can efficiently counter all kinds of bosses/enemies in the game, most notably flying Griffins/Drakes (vs. melees) & magic-immune Golems (vs. casters)

Snipe weak points + right augment + explosive arrows = amazing dps

there are some points to mention, first it depants on your own lvl since your strength do rise each lvl up a bit, second, get your self the Bakbattal Bow wich is the strongest 56K Gold + upgrade it, 3 Rings.. people still dont pay atention to theyr rings but its like day and night if you equip the right ones.
And last but not least : Go to volcanic Island and get the Magica Archer Vocation ASAP, its dmg combined with an upgraded Volcanic Island Camp - Magic Bow is like 200% of the best normal Bow you can get in BAKBATTAL 4x upgraded. 650dmg, a bit slowly to aim but its dmg.. oh Boy..its like a oneshot Bow against Bosses

Explosive arrow to weak spot deletes multiple health bars on some bosses. If you're not using special arrows, you're badly limiting your dps.

Class is meh but fun to play and very safe. You need to constantly hit weakspots in manual aiming mode with the augment for extra dmg on weakspots.

Best attacks are spiral arrow/tempest for any boss and regular manual aim attack for everything else. Kick stuff from time to time. Also use your range. Snipe stuff from far away, let it walk towards you and melt it down on the way.

All other skills are pretty weak and/or cumbersome compared to spiral, tempes and manual aim attack. And therefore useless. Maybe you can have fun with explosives, but most of the time that's too slow.

It's so sad that deathly arrow is a trash move for it being so hard to pull off the timed version while aiming.

Oh and spiral arrow combined with element enhancement = win

Nope. The timed one is great when you learn to time it. It is great for knocking enemies off cliffs and into the brine as well. The take a knee and spam is also OP if you do it right. Combine it with one or two of the rings that increase damage based on how close you are. Then when you topple a large enemy, get close and unload on their weak point.
So far I'm enjoying Archer with Heavenly Shot whenever a mage cast Celestial Paean. XD

Don't you burn though special arrows quickly though, only being able to carry 99 each? Am I missing something?
you can carry up to 99 each kind + 99 each kind on your main pawn, and if you still wish to have more, you can evan command your hired pawns to carry each 99 arrows so you can have like 4 times 99 poison, explosives, oil with you, but a Griffin wont eat more than 3 poison 2 oil and 4 explosives till its well done. Btw Griffin likes to get shot in his open mouth while its stunned by poison. 3 explosive headshots and its dead.. as for Drakes.. poison poison poison till its stunned 3-4 then a good placed rapid fire of 25 shots in its open exposed heart and repeat, fire + oild wont harm it 1%

Deathly arrow is useless. It's too slow and too low in dmg, even if timed. Small enemies (goblins, skeletons, regular saurian, harpies etc) receive more headshots and dmg from manual aim at no stamina cost, for bosses spiral is better in any thinkable case. The only potential targets may be stone/fire saurians, where the game may register a knockdown randomly....or not. And even then: why would you use it instead of spiral arrow which stuns the stone saurians into oblivion? Faster, better CC, better dmg. Why would you want to knock stuff into water when you can't loot it afterwards?

What do you mean by "the take a knee"? You mean tempest? I already said it's good. Or is it called differently?

Didn't try magic archer yet, but I must say that I had most fun with standard archer.
