An interesting hidden book: Death's Knell
It was figured out that if the wandering merchant Arletta passes away, the book merchant Elsa replaces her and at that point when she becomes a wandering merchant you can use the thief skill pilfer/plunder to get the hidden book Death's Knell from her. This is important for people looking for a workaround for the quest Spellbound if they accidentally used up all their real books.
Arletta usually wanders north of the central pully station on the roads, Elsa will take over when Arletta dies to enemies or you give her the boot.

that's actually a really good tip, I'm gonna need to go around stealing from all the npcs just to see what they have now

i did find out something to be careful about. If you steal in public generally nothing happens. I assume a small bit of affinity loss happens but there is also a "bump" counter of some sort. If enough npcs are bumped in a localized area at the same time they all aggro.
This happened to me when I was plundering everyone in the Boredello near the end.

oh I see, that could be a throwback to the first game where bumping into npcs lowered their affinity of you, I guess it's more drastic here though lol thanks for the warning

That's wild that we can get 3 copies of that book but some of the others are (as far as we know) still limited to 1. I hope someone some day finds another copy of some of those because I'm tired of visiting the forgery man so often that he gets rosy cheeks xD

But good info! Appreciate the info you share here/in your guides. It's good stuff
