+1 all with dwarven and then the fire forge upgrade for half weight... the best option!
The enhancement system in general, in my opinion, makes no sense, aside from some magic builds, the difference in power between one choice and the other turns out to be so small that nothing really changes, the stats will do the rest and compensate, on the other hand, the knockdown power, opens up so many possibilities, so there're no reasons not to go for it in 90% of the builds...
Then dwarven (at least once) But it also depends of the materials I have in stock. The main goal for me is to get it dragonforged as fast as possible, and make the nessecary upgrades for that, that are available.
But in the end, I don't use the bow in the first place (anymore), because I don't realy need tha bonus-XP anymore, and the stamina-costs are just too high. I use the Hydra-bow instead.
Aaaand, I also think the Archer is too weak as vocation in comparison to all others (even including trickster...) Especially the ultimate is the weakest in the game if you consider the costs... (all stamina, with comparable damage of the Death shot, if that is timed correctly.)
I none the less like archers... as pawns. But for them, the Medusa Spellbow is nearly useless.
This.
Medusa Spellbow chews through stamina at a debilitating rate, and gives you a load of extra XP in return... but it doesn't share that XP with your Pawns, so you end up with a level-gap between your Arisen and Main Pawn that only gets bigger the more you use this bow.
Still, the upgrade thing applies equally to all bows.
The only right answers are Battahli or Dwarven. Bows have no magical component and probably get the least benefit from Knockdown boosts among all physical weapons, since most of your shots aren't going to knock anything over, and Erupting Shot will do so due to an explosion rather than the power of the arrows. Still, you might be able to stagger things more easily if you shoot at the legs. Going Battahli for pure damage or Dwarven for the Knockdown are both viable options.
When I did this it actually seemed as though the pawn still gets some bonus xp to try to somewhat keep up with you, similar to the DDDA system. Still had a level difference between us though. Best way I've found to use the spellbow is as a warfarer. Use flare on things that are tanky, then switch to the bow before it pops, you still get the xp bonus. For small things just spam basic bow attack on it, celerity helps here.
Knockdown isn't really that black and white. Dwarven is better early on but lategame you will be obliterating everything so fast the knockdown is rather irrelevant, so stacking battahli/elven ATK/MATK, camp buffs and newt liquor is your best bet for max DPS.
For blunt weapons, Dwarven
For staves, Elven
This ^ If you don't believe bows have good knockdown power, you're not doing it right.
Also it ain't heavy with dwarven. I use it with warfarer, mostly when I use a ricochet spell in a cave, and then switch to medusa bow.
