I really like the part where you're playing an unoptimized as ♥♥♥♥ game while complaining about performance.
Over the next two years like Elden Ring where people asked the same stupid question. You know the type, the kind who blame their ineptitude on bugs when they screw up.
But with how much some idiotic gamers are letting ♥♥♥♥ devs and publishers get away with these days, they probably COULD get away with charging for a performance patch.
These are two separate questions.
Abandoned? No, there was a patch literally 3 weeks ago. If 3 weeks of inactivity = abandoned to you, you need to work on your expectations.
Are they working on fixing performance? There's no official word, but one certainly hopes so. However, the suspicion is that it's not as easy as "whoops, we forgot to tick the 'optimization' box before we compiled the code!" So if it's even possible, it'll likely take a while.

^no fix yet, but modders are discovering all types of issues

The developers have publicly acknowledged the performance issues and announced that they will release improvements in future updates, so be patient.
For me, the game performs most of the time reasonably well. Of course, Vernworth's stuttering is the worst-case scenario, but it hasn't ever prevented me from enjoying the game.
I could swear this is a series of English words ... but they don't make any sense.
