I've gone to fight Medusa quite a lot, and usually I tell the pawns to wait outside, but the goldfish-brained fools follow me in the moment I start combat, which defeats the purpose of telling them to wait outside at all. So I've kinda given up on that unless I'm trying to get a preserved head.
SO I bring a ton of Malleating Elixirs and Panaceas, and give them at least five of each... each.
And most of the time they'll use some of them. Typically doing stupid nonsense like directly standing in Medusa's gaze and spamming the curatives. Sometimes they don't use them, and end up petrified before I can do anything to save them.
I think the best approach is to leave the pawns fighting Bandits outside and rush in to knock Medusa out of gaze-mode before the pawns catch up with you... and make sure they have the damned curatives with them just in case it makes any difference whatsoever.
All NPCs favor this item greatly.
