Malleating Elixir is utterly pointless.
I can't use them on my allies even when I'm standing next to them. They'll never use it themselves while they're being petrified, and they'll never move out of the gaze, they just stand there. You have to physically pick them up and move them.

The only way to use it is on yourself, but that move is so telegraphed I'm not sure who'd actually get caught in it unless they're trying to.

Even pawns with Chirugeon wont use Malleating Elixir on other pawns. Not sure what the point of this item is...?

Sometimes pawns use it, sometimes they don't.
I've gone to fight Medusa quite a lot, and usually I tell the pawns to wait outside, but the goldfish-brained fools follow me in the moment I start combat, which defeats the purpose of telling them to wait outside at all. So I've kinda given up on that unless I'm trying to get a preserved head.
SO I bring a ton of Malleating Elixirs and Panaceas, and give them at least five of each... each.
And most of the time they'll use some of them. Typically doing stupid nonsense like directly standing in Medusa's gaze and spamming the curatives. Sometimes they don't use them, and end up petrified before I can do anything to save them.

I think the best approach is to leave the pawns fighting Bandits outside and rush in to knock Medusa out of gaze-mode before the pawns catch up with you... and make sure they have the damned curatives with them just in case it makes any difference whatsoever.

All NPCs favor this item greatly.

I've once ran into LOS of the medusa just to grab and carry out a pawn from the beam. The petrification time is pretty generous in this game, as all it took was staying behind a pillar for a little bit for the effect to go away.
