It's not the best game I've played this year, I mean, we did get Helldivers 2, and there are many promising titles like Manor Lords about to launch.

But in terms of combat & mechanics, it's easily the best RPG/ARPG of the past decade.

In terms of actual roleplaying, nah, JRPGs were never real RPGs, they are adventure games, they have their set story, you're not playing any roles, you're leveling up and playing with builds, the story isn't something you can change much, it's something you discover, so don't get this expecting BG3, DAO or Fallout 2, it's not the same kind of game.

This Mod (''Infinite Levitation (fly) and Jump for all Vocations'')
This is one of many cheat mods people throw on and then later claim the game's too easy. This mod inparticular has over 2000 downloads. You could guarantee that many of these mods are used and made for reviewers. They're located at Dragon's Dogma 2 Nexus Mods.
I DON'T RECOMMEND MODDING this game, because it will completely ruin the experience.

You realise, people CHEAT and then get all the achievments on games so they can brag about it or appear like their this amazing gamer....quite often they're the ones saying a game's too easy. I know y'all probably already know this because you are no fool.

If you liked Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, you should love this game because its a Super Enhanced version with all new quests and story.
This game's about combat. The more you fight the stronger you get so the people that complain about the lack of fast travel are not liking this game because its about combat. In combat you level up and rank up your vocation. When your vocation gets to max, you can switch to a different vocation and rank that up and you can use ANY AUGMENT PERK OF ANY VOCATION and put them on your character or pawn. (I don't think people understand how cool this is, and you could do the same on DD1.)
So its a power fantasy game with the Pawn system. The pawn system works very similar to other games. You have one main Pawn thats always with you and can pick 2 more. You get to decide what your main pawn wears and fights with. You can customise their look and weaponry.
This is GOTY to me so far, maybe better.....Time will tell for sure.

It's fun, I try not to overthink things too much.

unfortunately, this is a question that only you will be able to answer, and only after the fact. to get the MTX out of the way - these don't have an impact on the gameplay as much as they're just a slippery slope to the game industry. The Rift Crystals are unnecessary, unless you want to hire some super high pawn so that you can be lazy. Almost all of the MTX can be acquired through gameplay and time.

Personally, i feel the game is garbage, plagued by poor design choices. The combat may be the best aspect, but, the more i play the game the more annoying and poor the combat seems.

One example: i'll be attacking one mob, right in front of me, and i'll dart off to attack some other mob far off the screen, for some reason.
Another - i'll be executing a skill which will stop early in the damage process to grab on to the mob, just because i'm too close. i am not mashing buttons, it just does what it wants to do.

There's also a massive amount of unnecessary fluff to the game, such as - victory fist bumps and high fives. cooking meat at camps for temp buffs, but its literally picking a meat and frying it in a pan, nothing else. This could've been a much more appropriate, non-cutscene animation.
Essentially, there's a lot of immersive content that doesn't really serve a purpose unless you have a lonely / good imagination. Anyone add logs to the campfire? Just found that out last night. Added like a hundred just in case there was some hidden mechanic - nope.

Everyone wants to praise this game but no one wants to address the tedious ♥♥♥♥ that could really drive potential players mad - such as the endless pawn banter, the nuanced mechanics, the endless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ escort quests, the constant, meaningless combat encounters, the 'find out the hard way' hidden mechanics, the 'Decisions will matter' and missed content, depending on how you play. Being stopped by random pawns roaming the world, even though you didn't interact with them or are in combat.
There's also no standard fast travel. There is a way for limited fast travel options, but you'll mainly be walking everywhere. Also, the dungeons are mainly just caves, and they're lame as hell.
These aspects are fine and you can go out of your way to avoid them - but a lot of gamers will be turned away by them or find them low quality compared to what you would expect from an RPG.

Take the miss-able content. The game pops up a lot of tutorial messages as mechanics unfold. But, you will obtain quests to achieve some goal, with no real intuitive direction for how to achieve this goal. There is a lot of exploratory and investigative paths that the player will have to walk. In doing so, you may pick up additional quests, some which are time sensitive, causing the player to deviate from what their original intentions were. There are also quests that you can mess up or fail due to not paying enough attention or choosing the wrong decision.
Again, these are fine. but they should be stated.

One example for the quests - There is a Sphinx who may or may not understand what a riddle means. One riddle requires you to find this 'father' figure. It may not be difficult...but, it's also not really apparent, esp. if you're not paying attention in certain locations you may find yourself...

Further, the save system doesn't allow for course correction. The game uses an auto-save, single file system. There is a 'load from last autosave' or 'load from last inn rest.' If you haven't rest / saved at an inn for quite a while, and load that option, you could lose tens of hours of play time. Obviously, the single file / autosave system isn't an issue for certain games / gamers. But, for an RPG like this, it may be.

The game has a lot of mechanics that are unique to the genre. But, they really lean into them, which could alienate a lot of players.

Nah some mods are just better game design
Like moving loot into chests as opposed to buying stuff in shops
Like not having stamina drain 'outside' of combat ,,, I can run further than my character in this game before they get out of breath, and I'm don't profess to be good at running - I have asthma

Some other things like being able to see NPC affinity
Better camera
Less item weight - not 'none' (so you spend more time looting and less time F*ing about with inventory management)
Better map icons...

being able to change vocation by interacting with your pawn (The best mod ever)

There's a ton of good mods which don't do anything other than improve the game -

But yea, there's cheaty ones

Basically feels like you're playing a Lord of the Rings movie, that includes the incredibly long walk from the Shire to Mordor, and everything in between. If you like that idea, and repeating that idea several times, then just like me, you'll enjoy this game. I felt like it was my own personal movie/series with bonds of fellowship with my pawns at my side. I enjoyed the combat as a Warrior pretending I was Guts as I delivered many killing blows to big bosses. I'm on my second playthrough now as the Thief vocation and it feels like I'm a ninja doing fast slashes as I plant a bomb on the boss' head and I jump off them to detonate it.

In the end DD2 is my GOTY.

Yeah, reviews are pretty useless now, mtx, woke, denuvo, character height, politics, corporate blah blah blah. Very few review games anymore. Some of the worst games on steam are "overwhelmingly positive". It's a complete joke. If you find a reliable and informative source that posts objective reviews then by all means share.

my opinion:

performance often is abysmal.
The game itself is awesome if you take your time and explore every nook and cranny and keep doing all sidequests etc. If you're rushing the story, the game may feel lacking (that's what ppl often complain about when they reach the final boss after 20 hours of playtime)

I've seen leeches after 80 hours, and they were right outside Vernworth.
