Dwarven upgraded armor worth it for magic users?
My main complaint with sorcerer in this game is the lack of an augment to protect against stagger while casting. Hooligan goblins throwing rocks and harpies make sorcerer somewhat frustrating even with a full party.

I already plan to use dwarvern on my archistaff for the stopping power when enemies get too close but I was wondering if it would even have a noticeable effect on sorcerer armor since stagger resistance somewhat seems to scale with class.

i used batahl smithing for my mage because even if she got attacked you never quite have enough knockdown res to break the threshold until you get really high numbers. but at least now she only gets chipped. if she get attacked even once i just take agro over. and mage clothes have a ton of magic defense as is. what its lacking is the defense natively.

I was using the Verdum smithing on robes. I spent a lot of time as a Warrior and some of the stats carried over so when I wear my Incantor's set my physical defense is comparable to the Grand Cuirass.
i use sacred robes which has a far greater magic def and far less defense. using bahtal makes them sort of even out a bit but still have tons of magic defense. with plenty of defib res.

I usually just run my main pawn and I so definitely a bit. I only hire wandering pawns if I'm drake hunting or expecting problems.

It's usefull at least to add thief pawn(preferably with plunder) it occasionaly will steal ferrystones\wakeshard\wakestones.

Thief or archer and a fighter are what I grab when I need backup.

Dwarven is the only upgrade that matters for armor because knockback resistance is the most important armor stat

Vermund and Batthal each have their own accessible at any of their smiths. The Elves have one in their village (if you haven't found it talk to the elf standing at the Vermund weapons shop and do his quest) and Dwarvern is only in Act 2 with a quest to unlock.

Vermund reduces weight and gives balanced upgrades.
Batthal increases weights, boosts physical, and gives reduced magick upgrades.
Elven reduces weight, boosts magick, but gives reduced physical upgrades.
Dwarvern increases weight, increases stagger damage or resistance, and gives balanced upgrades.

Is this all post-game stuff? I just did regular upgrades at a vendor then took it to the dragonforged to well, dragon forge it. Was there another option or something?

Smiths in different areas have different smithing styles that determine what you get from the enhancement. There’s vermundian, battahli, dwarven, and elven. This is default and you get a tutorial about it the first time you open the menu and they have unique icons and the top of the enhancement screen has a description of it.

Starting in ng+ you can reset enhancements on an item with the dragonforge guy in case you don’t like the ones you chose.
