How to Overwrite Cloud Saves with Local Saves?
Hello,

EDIT: I'm trying to overwrite my Steam cloud saves with my backup local saves. I made backup local saves right before NG+ then completed the game. However, whenever I try to use these local saves (disable and re-enable cloud sync), Steam overwrites the local saves with cloud NG+ ones. I thought Steam would simply use the most recent files (local) and update with that, but this isn't the case.

So the question is, is there a way to select with saves (local/cloud) Steam should update with?

Thank you DD2 community!z

UPDATE: I'll solved the issue.
I completed the game and got to the NG+ menu and reactivated Cloud Sync. This time, the file conflict asked which files I wanted to keep. I'm not sure if the option only came up now because there's a 24 hour difference to the files or something, but glad it's solved.

You can access properties of the game, in General tab you can turn off cloud save backup. That way game shouldn't overwrite it for you.

disable cloud saves.
take backup of your save folder, its number is 2054970
then delete that folder
copy paste the save folder of your choice to same place
enable steam cloud sync
launch and load game, do a quicksave.
exit game
wait sync complete

Yes, I'm aware of this. I've already done that, however my question is how can I use local files to overwrite cloud saves (and keep cloud saves activated after).

I have already done this.
The issue is that the game keeps syncing with the Cloud Saves and not the Local saves despite Local being more recent. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Are you able to delete the cloud save from in game while connected to cloud, then turn cloud off and load up local?

I don't know how the cloud system works for DD2 but it should be the same as for any other game. The local files have to be newer than the cloud files. Meaning the cloud files should be overwriten if you:

1. Disable cloud
2. copy the save game files you want to upload to the cloud to the save game folder
3. play the game using those files and create a save to overwrite the local files with a newer date
4. close the game
5. enable cloud and start the game. You should get a message that the cloud files are outdated and they should be overwriten with your local ones

No?

when you enable steam cloud, steam games always going to use latest cloud save regardless if you ve even more recent or older local save. only solution is disabling cloud. thats how steam works.

and what i wrote is for updating a steam cloud save via force switching it with a local save file.

other than those i cant think anything else, im sorry.

This is actually not true. If the local files are newer than the cloud files you usually get a warning message saying the cloud files are out of date (steam cloud conflict dialogue), as far as I remember from the times I used the steam cloud

You can also try these methods:

Overwite the savefile with the game running, then exit to resync the cloud with the new save.
Alright thanks.

Most seem to be suggesting progressing the local saves and then syncing with the cloud saves and so the game updates with the lastest saves. This is what I originally tried (and what should work in the case of most games), but it didn't here.

However, one thing I've noticed is that when I sync with Steam Cloud, 1 or 2 new files appear in save folder which are NOT in my local saves. One of them appears to relate directly to NG+ (data003Slot.bin) as it was created around the time I completed the game. I'm wondering if the appearance of this cloud file is what keeps moving the entire game along to the NG+ each time.

I response to my own analysis, I think for the time being, I'll simply disable DD2 Cloud save until I've completed the Unmoored world. After I enter NG+ I'll see if the newly created data003Slot.bin file overwrites the current Cloud file.

EDIT UPDATE: I've solve the issue. After reactivating cloud sync, Steam gave me the option to rewrite with local files (maybe cause of a 24 hour difference I dunno). Glad it's solved!
