What helps to make a sound from the chests nearby?
I went to someone's stream and I hear the chests making a sound.

were they using the dowsing rods dual daggers?

It's not the chests, it's what's in the chests. Specifically, either wakestone shards or seeker's tokens. The first augment unlocked by the Trickster vocation does this.

That is either the daggers from turning in seekers tokens or the trickster augment reacting to a wakestone in said chest.

It's an augment from the trickster which make wakestones and seeker tokens to shine and make a noise when you are nearby.

that's "detection" augment from trickster.
used that to get all my seeker tokens. I need 20 left to get the ring, but all vocations already maxed out. srysly what were they thinking.

I hired one pawn with the daggers once, never again.. That constant *pling pling pling* was maddening. The pawns yap about nearby chests even without them far too much as it is.
