GAME ENDINGS.
* SPOILERS BELOW *

I have recently unlocked the best ending for DD2 and finally my main Pawn got it's 5 minutes of fame :)

That being said... I'm confused. Perhaps I missed some dialogue or didn't pay attention while riding the dragon ( being bombarded by Credit screen and Dragon Spikes doesn't help ) but I think that all endings kinda suck.

Correct me if I'm wrong but whatever ending we choose we still have to "Restart from the beginning in a "NG+"". I thought that after going out of my way to evacuate everyone and get my pawn affinity to max we would break the cycle and try to survive in the unmoored world? Perhaps get the same powers like the guy in the hoodie with blue eyes ( In DD1 you could actually take over the seat from him and subsequent arisen will fight your old characters which I found to be cool ).

In DD2 your main pawn ( in the cutscene ) thanks the arisen for giving her/him "will" and she/he sacrifices her/his life. Afterwards Arisen stabs the dragon's heart with Godsbane, we could hear the Blue Eyed guy's voice of regret saying he won't be able to see subsequent cycles / new stories.

After the credits we only have an option to either start NEW GAME or RESTART new story with all the loot and exp.

Excuse me what the hell just happened?! So no matter what we do the cycle will continue. Your main pawn dies and all that we achieved was the death of the blue eyed entity.

We don't get to see what happens to the unmoored world after we kill the dragon and save the people. We don't get to continue trying to rebuild and stabilise the leftover world... We don't get a happy ending with our main pawn o.- ( wink wink ). I'm disappointed to be honest. There is a Capcom survey that hints on upcoming DLC and I highly recommend to fill it in. Give them your thoughts and ideas.

Maybe some of you can understand it better than I do in which case I would appreciate some insight. Cheers.

1. The world I rescued from the "pathfinder" was unmoored and pretty much a wasteland. Why there is water out of the sudden?

2. Who is the old man and how is he important? Unless it's Capcoms way to hint a DLC expansion ( Dark Arisen in DD 1 was offshore as well on an Island ).

It's possible it's hinting towards DLC, but the takeaway is that the water is safe, we ended the cycle, the brine is gone, and the people are completely free.

The Old Man is the Elder that lives on the shore in Halve Village, right next to the portcrystal there. He's the one that flat-out tells you that the world is in a cycle and the eyes of the watchers are always on you.

Of course, he looks and sounds crazy, and the townspeople all consider him to be the weirdo that the brine keeps giving back to the shore, and that he's the one that gets in a boat so he can go talk to the brine.

Now he's just on a boat, there is no brine to talk to - the water has been restored and the land has been freed from it. He then sings "I'm on a Boat" with T-Pain.

I believe its implied that we are in a new world. There is a whole 'multiverse' thing they play with in these games. The first games actual ending had you break the cycle and the MMO was all about worlds crossing into one another(explaining why there were multiple arisen).
Pawns also talk about their arisen all the time.
Its not stated outright but you are supposed to be in a different world. Not a refresh of your own world.

I just want to spotlight something for people who are scrolling through comments. Right before you begin the true ending process the watcher mentions that they will show you through another person's eyes, leaving the "good end" and "true end" as separate possibilities. Here is my interpretation, the "Good" ending and the beginning of the game throne reception are one and the same. Our Arisen has been most likely reliving this one cycle ad infinitum, all on the whims of the watcher. Like someone with their favorite movie or book. So with the emphasis on "Will" we the arisen makes the choice to END the cycle in the true ending. So why the cycle? I interpreted it as in the reality of Dragon's Dogma, there is a real and apparent END of the world, a rule of reality. The issue is that this rule of the world, its end, has a "Will" too. They wanted to still watch the world they "loved" and the cycles are the extent of influence that they can exercise. Think of it as the hero's journey as the only reason why your world exists and in escaping our role with the godsbane, the macguffin that changes the rules of reality, we erase the rule of dragons, the end of the world, and the arisen. So the true end is us ceasing to exist to allow the world to live without the reality of dragons for awhile until it manifests again at another time and place. Now for a nice rumor, the map is actually just Gransys and the sunken shrine is in the same spot as where Gran Soren would have been.

Extra note, the NG+ after a true end doesn't make sense story wise to me. But it is left as an option for people who do not want to lose everything in a normal new game.

Sleep in the Inn in the last area, then beat the dragon. Set on the throne as the credits play. You go back to the title.

Then choose to load last inn save, and you will be in that Inn again. Then just use a ferry stone to go back to the main island. Then you can see an ending, but also keep playing in NG without being forced into NG+ immediately.

DD1 moment it sounds like. There is no true ending to the cycle. Kill the man on the throne? You take his place even if you godsbane. Just restarts the cycle and you fight the old you who godsbaned themsleves (didn't die but gave life to their pawn at least in a way).
DD2 I didn't finish unmoored yet but sounds same. Cycle just can't be broken probably is the theme.

No, beating DD2 with unmoored changes the title screen to DD2 instead of just DD.

The pathfinder is gone at the end of DD2 true ending, claiming he won't be able to see future cycles. but then when you start ng+ from there, he's obviously still there and you're doing the same story.

the diff is DD1 never had a definitive "you broke the cycle" where this does, it's painting the plot into the corner
Fair, but the plot this time around is kinda bad and underwhelming anyway. I'm okay ignoring that.

DD1 had the game neatly looped. DD2 is neither perfectly looped nor properly adjusted for a real ending. Worst of all deals.

It's not random chance, but spreads on contact. Certain pawns are infected and spread it around with bunch of Capcom pawns being eternally sick so the disease never dies out. If you want to get it just keep hiring pawns until you see the tutorial about dragon's plague then wait ~week and sleep in at an inn

The tutorial thing isn’t a good indication. I created a second account and rehired my first pawn. Immediately I get the dragonsplague tutorial. I’m very sure my first pawn doesn’t have it as I’ve ‘cleansed’ her. Also its been weeks ingame and the plague hasn’t happen yet.

That's right. The pathfinder is still there. There is no proper "after story" It's just endless cycle. It would be cool if the subsequent playthroughs had some differences depending on the ending... The least they could have done is to give us a proper "Cutscene Ending" explaining what happened after the Arisen killed the dragon and Main Pawn died. Call the New Game - Cycle Reset or something like that.

and BY THE WAY :

The old man is the crazy guy from Harve Village. There's water because you erased the brine when you killed yourself and the pathfinder

Ah, the ending broke my heart! My beloved pawn gave his life for me- and then I, what, gave my life to free the world? Do I have that right? The arisen dies, too?

So I mean, no, the NG+ doesn't necessarily make sense in this case, but dang, I got all up in my feelings about it...

Actually you do see what happened after u saved the people. The unmoored world is gone and the world get back to normal. The ending cutscenes show u what happened to those important quest related npc due to your actions. The scenes are different if you did not finish their quests. The cycle is broken hence the oldman can sail out the sea. As for your main pawn and you, I am sad to say both of you died together with the blue eye pathfinder. That is what happened thus when u start a new game with your toon, it is like everything never happened and all your affinity with npc including your pawns got reset to zero.

the beastren in the sea floor shrine was the seneschal

pathfinder was something different tbth the game would have been better if the dragon at the end was not a roll credits it just feels like a waste of time no one cares about this game's lore, because the game's story has nothing to say there's not enough follow through for it to be taken seriously and the fact it takes itself so seriously is just dumb.

How many people playing DD want the cycle of arisen and dragon to end? no one we want another dragon boss fight.

it's like getting a dragons dogma game with no actual dragon fight, the dragon in the game was easily one of the best characters but he was not used there isn't even a looping lore you become the old man if you fail why don't you become the next dragon or the seneschal?

it's like they got AI Rian Johnson to write their story. you gave us a 70 usd game and all it has is good combat. the gameplay feels better than ER (which feels like DD3 but with horses) just gonna be honest if the game had more enemies and customization it would e perfect.
