Sad about Tensions on the High Road (Spoilers)

So I'm in NG+ and picked Raghnall's side again. I knew the floor would collapse this time around so I wanted to see if something cool would happen if I avoided falling in. Luckily a goblin thing came and dropped the floor so I could see the exact gap location. But as soon as the floor dropped the screen went black and I was teleported over the hole to fall in. A little disappointed, but alright makes sense that I need to get to Raghnall's side to have the rest play out.

But then. The moment I super wanted to see if there was a change. Was the moment the cave collapses and separates the two of us. After leaving a pop up shows "You left the cavern alone" so I had assumed there'd be a way to not leave the cavern alone. So I picked him up over my shoulder and left the cave. I was standing outside the cave with him on my shoulder and then.....fade to black and he's back on the opposite side of the rubble.

I get that there can't always be an unlimited number of choices for all these quests, but still. A little disappointed to see that one happen the way it did.

I tossed the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into the brine at the small camp before leaving the cave, and he was alive and well when I left the cave and it collapsed behind me. In an earlier playthrough I killed him in the tower before the Dragon fight, still had him show up during the end credits.

I think it's a race thing.
