Question about "romance". Endgame spoilers, but they don't really apply if you've beaten DD1.
So, like Dragon's Dogma 1, Grigori once again presents the Arisen with a choice, as he canonically always dies. Sacrifice your love, or fight...

How the ♥♥♥♥ do we control what NPC he selects? I assumed it would be like the first game, so I went to the NPC I want, gave them a few gifts, and made sure they were the last NPC I spoke with... Yet Grigori is still presenting me with a prostitute.

How the ♥♥♥♥ do I fix this? Clearly the methods from DD1 don't apply, I'm about to kill the prostitute just to get her off my affinity.

(Context; I did the bordello a few times to unlock the platinum pass to see if it does anything (it doesn't) and apparently sleeping with the workers raises their affinity very high.)

Update: You can't kill prostitutes. They seem to be the ONE DAMN NPC GROUP IN THE GAME that is unkillable. You can't attack them directly and if you drop them in water, they follow the "Arisen" rules of just getting spit out of the water instead of dying... Capcom had to have done this on purpose lmao.

Update 2: Fed her to a cyclops. Turns out they are GENUINELY immortal and cannot be killed. How ever after holding her and letting the cyclops hit her out of my hands a few times, she got pissed off and I no longer have max affinity.

We ball.

Well, for one, you're kinda wrong. Because the dragon's name in DD1 isn't even "Grigori." Grigori is essentially a fan name

Incorrect.

The subtitles when Grigori speaks shows "Grigori".

The cult calls the dragon Grigori.

Grigori himself calls himself Grigori in the into in Latin. "My name s Grigori" is part of what is said.

It is not "just a fan name". It's his REAL name. There's only ONE Grigori. But there are multiple dragon. As in the final boss dragon in DD2. Which clearly looks different for a start. Anyone calling that Grigori is ignorant.

No, there is never any subtitle that says "Grigori" when the dragon speaks.

The elysion literally says ONE TIME "Merciful winged death! All-powerful and merciless Grigori!" which could be the name for the type of creature, not that dragon's name. Every other time elysion says "the dragon."

The bestiary says "The Dragon"

And the wyrmspeak the dragon in the beginning says

"Io aqua rata mas querite, Aqua rata taeter omni, Nis querota quoto labare, Nomen meum grigori vestestra mystaen meus morata eta malada" which would translate to My name is Gregory in latin, but that would be the family/last name not the first name.

so no, it's not arbitrary people didn't just "make it up" but it's not substantiated that it's the dragon's first name.

So, this dragon COULD be another Grigori, all references in the game could easily be the equivalent of referring to the family like "my name is Targaryen", "the all-powerful and merciless Targaryen" or whatever

Maybe you should have taken a course on social norms.
When you make a claim, provide evidence.

Anyway here's the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KElREpNxiko
1:16 you clearly hear "grigori"

According to comments he is supposedly saying "i will show you reality and truth, for i test the mettle of gods. I am gregori and with thine heart within i become thine vessel and make another link in the infinite chain, the seat of god lies beyond my corpse" but i'm not gonna go waste time learning a dead language

Google translator and every other one says "my name" would be "meum nomen" but i hear what sounds more like "Now-oon-ne Grigori" which sounds like it could be the root for the word "noun". That means name so i'm happy with that

Just to be clear, I actively call the original Dragon Grigori. xD This cutscene is the "one time the name is said" I was referring to. I was frankly kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with him for being whiny about it for no reason.

I refer to the Dragon in DD2 as Grigori for a reason, but that is spoilery.

in the ending sequence of DD2 there are active implications that that every arisen who becomes the dragon, become the SAME dragon. there's like 2 lines that imply it, i forget what the first was, but the second basically states the there is only one dragon and the arisen simply act as the vessel for the chaos energy to reincarnate the dragon... This is a little iffy though, since the Dragon in DD2 has a wildly different personality than Grigori.

Now, some people think "Grigori" was the name of the actual Arisen, and not the The Dragon, but I've never actually seen any kind of proof of that, which is what I wanted to see if the guy would give evidence for, but I was having fun with it.

As I said to that dude, I have in fact beaten DD1 like 3 times and Dark Arisen upwards of 20 times, so I do actually know the lore, but he was kind of a douche, so. :3
As I understand it:

Arisen gives-up/fails-to-beat-dragon = former arisen and will become dragon forged when enough time passes

Arisen dies during their quest and doesn't revive = becomes dragonkin, such as a drake

Arisen kills Grigori then dies fighting seneschal = becomes the new Grigori

Arisen become seneschal then kills themselves = broken cycle
