true it was said that DD2 is an alternate world but that doesn't mean Gran Soren and Gransys did not exist in this world. In this world Gransys might've been destroyed and turned into ruins that's why you can see some familiar places from DD1.
Maybe this world is more of a continuation to Netflix's Dragons Dogma coz the arisen in that anime had a somewhat bad end. And many cycles later that world might've been destroyed and turned into this one in DD2 but you can clearly find traces of Gransys here.

Also when you realize the Seafloor Shrine is Grand Soren once you check the map again you could slightly guess where everything else was from DD1 and you'll see it really is familiar
Doesn't make this the same "world" as game 1. I mean your pawns knew where the find that chest you didn't cause they are in in "alternate" version of Vermund/Battahl right? Same with game one, there were infinite "versions" of Gransys.
Yup
This is one of an infinite number of Gran Sorens. At least that's my understanding as it seems fairly cut and dry.
Brought a tear to my eye when I first realized I was in Gran Soren though, not gonna lie.
I was excited when that was announced. What a trash fire that was, but yes, that was just another parallel world.
I'm sure other's have cottoned on to this, but with DD1 Capcom essentially created a universe in which they have the potential to create an unlimited number of games that can be as loosely or tightly connected as they wish. It's literally cannon that innumerable parallel worlds are simultaneously undergoing the cycle of the dragon and arisen, yet each world has it's own unique history.
In DD2's world specifically, if you achieve the true ending, you end the cycle. Uncountable other worlds, however, are still repeating the cycle. Those that are wondering how a sequel could happen after the finality of the true ending just don't get it.
There is no ending. Nor will there ever be.
Now will someone tell me why my fishing village turned into a volcano. (I'm pretending its the same world cause it would be funnier)
Exactly. Even the time period and level of technological advancement isn't necessarily equivalent between worlds. Natural and/or supernatural disasters may have vastly altered the landscape on some worlds. Perhaps others have had their people's populations so devastated by apocalyptic events that they eek out a living a few steps from extinction.
