Firefly Mystery ??

I've noticed that you can see a half-dozen or so things that appear to be fireflies, in random places.. Curious thing is, if you unsheath your weapon and do any kind of attack, they take off in random directions...

Anyone know if there might be more to the fireflies ( maybe some in-game secret ), or maybe it's just an in-game effect...
