How TF do you chop medusa's head off?

So I found Medusa(the first boss you encounter during tutorial) in a remote dungeon and I thought killing her would give me her head. It didn't. Went back to an older save(had to go to the inn because as you can guess it autosaves after you kill her) and came back and tried it again. I climed on top of her and hit her head repeatedly with daggers(was playing as thief).
I tried two different daggers(heavens key and the ice one) and none of them worked.
I got the bow though, it's pretty OP.

But how do you even get her to give you head?(no pun intended)

Yeah, just slash dmg on the head/neck and do enough hits before she loses 1 health bar. Ring that removes your dmg helps.
Seems lightning debuff helps, considering how many use the lightning daggers to do it.

No, they are slash.

If my knowledge of the french revolution serves me well, the best way would be to use a sharp object somewhere around her neck.

Jokes asside, you just climb up to her head and stab it with a weapon that does slashing damage until she is decapitated.

Did it with Bolts from the Blue daggers + 0 damage ring from Sphinx + no petrification ring
Just climb all the way up and keep clicking for ~1.5 bars of stamina long

they are and daggers work.
you just hit her head repeatedly until she is off balance and falls to the ground, then you hop off and go full damage on the head.
as ichigo said you can use the ring that decreases your damage while you are mounted and then take off the ring once she falls to the ground.
doing that, you should be able to behead her before she loses a single health bar.

My pawns did it for me the first time I fought it, and I killed it really fast with spells, I was a sorcerer at the time, so it can't be that hard. Just climb on top of the head and slash at it.

Only found. "Can be found in the Windworn Gully cave, located to the left of the town, past a rocky area, and near a cliff." Unless someone gifts.

Haven't used it myself yet, I still like the loot chest ding, I keep 'em on for my thief pawn when I rest with her in the house, for others to make use of it.

The thing is, you can't kill it fast to do it. It has to be done before losing 1 health bar.
Anyway you can do it every 14 days.

Lightning daggers, they are in a cave north-east of Checkpoint Rest

If you want the preserved Medusa head for the achievement, then using Thief with the Bolts from the Blue dagger can easily chop off its head within 10 seconds.
Otherwise, staying on top and slashing near its neck will do the trick.

Recently, I made a video on how to get the preserved medusa head and she does respwan after several in-game days. I just always waited 15 days to be safe and had zero issues.

In short, equip a very low damage weapon preferably daggers - Criteria - or the Ring of Derision and hack away at its neck until you knock it down, unequip ring and attack a few more times to get your preserved medusa head.

Does lightning debuff do anything to help it along? Or it's just how many hits and dmg before 1 health bar is gone.

lighting for any weapon with slash, i took it off instantly with a dualspear and lightning. you dont need a dagger. did not need the ring.
